Interview with RENE DA SILVA
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of my proudest projects was producing a full EP for an independent artist who had never released before. We created three tracks from scratch, and within weeks, they landed in Spotify editorial playlists. I produced, mixed, and guided every step.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I recently released my debut EP “997 by Rene Da Silva”, a bold urban project that blends Latin funk, electronic textures, and hard-hitting drums. It’s a sonic statement that showcases my identity as a producer and artist. Alongside that, I’m collaborating with emerging artists across Latin America and crafting music with a focus on rhythm, bounce, and originality.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: If you’re looking for amazing vocalists, topliners, or mix engineers — hit me up. I’ve built a trusted network and can recommend based on your project’s vibe.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I use both, but I lean digital for flexibility and speed. However, when I want that warmth or grit, I run sounds through analog gear or saturation plugins to blend the best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll treat your song like it’s mine. I’ll never deliver something generic or rushed. I’m here to make music that resonates — deeply and professionally.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Turning ideas into realities. That moment when the artist hears the final version and says, “That’s exactly what I imagined” — that’s the high I chase.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you make me something unique but still commercial?” My answer: Absolutely. That’s literally my specialty — finding the sweet spot between fresh and familiar.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That producers just “make beats.” I help shape the full identity of a song — sound, structure, vibe — all the way to the final master. It’s a creative and emotional partnership.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s your vision for the track? Do you have references or artists you admire? What’s the emotion or story behind your song? Is this part of a bigger project or a single release?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who listens. The best producers don’t just impose their sound — they understand yours and elevate it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MacBook Pro Apollo Twin Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones Arturia V Collection A MIDI keyboard (and maybe a coconut for percussion 😅)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started producing in 2014. At first, it was just a passion, but it quickly turned into a full-time career. Over the years, I’ve worked with both emerging and platinum artists, and my music has reached Spotify playlists and millions of streams.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotionally driven, rhythm-forward, and minimal yet impactful. I focus on creating a vibe that feels current but timeless. I like mixing street energy with melodic softness.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with artists like Rauw Alejandro, Feid, or Kali Uchis. They push boundaries sonically and aren't afraid to experiment with new textures. That’s exactly the space where I feel most creative.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. If your beat doesn’t leave space for the vocals to shine, it won’t connect. Focus on emotion, not complexity.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Reggaeton, Latin Pop, Afrobeat, Trap Latino, and commercial Urban music. I stay updated with current trends but always aim to innovate within them.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Translating a vague idea or voice note into a commercially viable and radio-ready song. I’m great at capturing emotions sonically and making a track feel alive.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring freshness and identity. I don’t just make beats — I build soundscapes that connect emotionally. I make sure each track has its own soul and is tailored to the artist’s vibe and target audience.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by listening carefully to the artist’s vision and references. Then I build a custom beat and guide the vocal production step by step. I'm hands-on with arrangement, mix, and if needed, vocal tuning to make sure the song sounds like a hit.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work out of a hybrid studio between Medellín and Miami. My setup includes high-end ADAM Audio monitors, Apollo Twin interface, and a curated set of virtual instruments and analog gear to ensure the cleanest and most unique sound.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by producers like Tainy, Sky Rompiendo, and MAG. Their ability to blend catchy melodies with cutting-edge sound design pushes me to stay creative and never repeat formulas.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in crafting modern Reggaeton, Afrobeat, and Latin Pop productions from scratch. Artists usually come to me with a melodic or lyrical idea, and I help them shape it into a full, high-quality track, ready for release.
