Interview with North Park Studios

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: The most common is writing for television or full production for an artist or band. Everything from Producing, Arranging, Tracking, Editing, and Mixing.

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: As I am a drummer, all the greats! Buddy, Gene, Dennis, Weckl, Etc... Inspiration comes from all places. Honestly there are too many to list.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: 3,000 sq Live room, great control room, Lounge, vocal/acoustic room and of course bathrooms and kitchen.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Every client is different with different goals which means every process is different. I find it is best to have a meeting and discussing everything before anything is booked.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: A fresh perspective, skilled ear and 15 years experience

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Pulling the best out of an artist even when they dont think they have any more to give.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: rock, metal, singer/songwriter, christian, radio spots, pop, rap and hiphop as well as TV licensing which encompasses a little of everything.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: 1: Get it right at the source 2: If it is a bad song, no amount of editing, mixing or mastering will make it a great song.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Killswitch Engage because I have been a fan for many years and I think it would be fun and interesting to see what happens when bringing a different perspective to their music.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Being a good producer means being what an artist needs in the moment. My style is to try to be what the artist needs.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: First I was a drummer in a signed touring rock band as well as a session drummer. I was always learning the art of producing and recording during that time. I guess you can say that I have been doing this since I was young and have just continued on my journey.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  25. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  26. A: Listen to their work then talk with their past clients.

  27. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  28. A: What is the goal? Demographics? Gear? Budget? Expectations? Time frame? What is your plan to advertise? I also like to hear what you've done in the past.

  29. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  30. A: Most artists and bands dont realize that to do well in this field, you have to have a good grasp of people. It is not just pushing buttons, it's psychology.

  34. A: It's a passion that I've turned into a career

  36. A: We will get to where you want to go.

  38. A: Both because they both have something unique they offer.

  41. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  42. A: Juggling a live album I just flew back from, a song for tv and helping a few of my clients get on the radio.

  43. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  44. A: Recently worked on a bands new ep. Took a couple months because we were not working on it constantly. It came out great and even started getting radio play. Now they are being looked at by labels and I'm excited to see their career move forward!
