Interview with Jesse Drake Music/Studio 5.1.6

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: All the stuff in the near future is what I'm really proud of I'll come back to this question when it's in the processes. But all my music is all done myself and I'm pretty proud of that

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Got some big things happening which I'm not at liberty to say but what I can say is I've been working with a bunch of different artists and making fresh beats that aren't released yet. But definately making moves.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm not sure I've only just discovered this platform

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. Why? Theres almost a simulator for every bit of analog gear known to man. I've never been a fan of the noise they make in some cases. And the main reason is that it's simply just not needed. And for how expensive it can be it's not worth it. Learn your daw learn Ur plugins create great mixes

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: 100% industry standard quality customer satisfaction.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Music is my passion and its something I've known my whole life. My favourite thing is working with so many different artists and personalities and seeing new skills and the art of music.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: If I can make personal beats for them or your general quote inquiry. And yes I do make personal original beats to some clients

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Not so personally me but the stigma that producers just push a few buttons and turn some knobs and it's sweet. If only it was that simple..

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Varies on artist

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: my advice is if you don't think you're ready to record you're probably not. But by all means feel free to message me I'm always happy to answer any questions and teach what I know.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Id only need 1... my guitar. Wouldn't need anything else on a desert island wouldn't I? Ahaha

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I do a lot I've stepped away from the live sound engineering game in order to pursue my studio. I've been a qualified working sound engineer for around 5 years now.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Hard hitting Mixed vigorously and Mastered loud and clear

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: System Of a down just because I think it would just be wild and for rap Eminem cause Im genuinely curious how he works in the studio and writes

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Learn your mics and learn how to Gain stage and mix low damn it no clipping allowed!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Mainly rap and Hip hop or alt rock

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Bringing out the vision of the artist by actually listening and keeping an open mind to clients. I pride myself on developing strong artist engineer connection. And My musical ability and skill.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: A variety of knowledge and mixing tricks and new age editing skills as well as my willingness to develop strong artist engineer chemistry

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: 1. Establish goal with client before in studio 2. Track everything perfect(no clipping allowed) 3. Gain stage (all tracks in processed to -18DB) 4. Add inserts and send fx (process where needed) 5. Experiment ideas and techniques 6. Panning and adding subtle FX (aka lifters, white noise, filters) 7. AUTOMATE AUTOMATE AND AUTOMATE MORE 8. MIX BUS processing and stereo out processing 9. Final tweaks 10.. Final mix at around -8DB -12DB range ready for master And if I'm mastering I just export mixdown and master the track in a seperate project.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Relatively humble set up. Few condenser and dynamic mics for tracking vocals and instruments I also have D.I options for guitar and keys if desired. Can track live drums at another venue but can easily program real drums. Have everything needed to record and mix master and give it a massive sound.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Musicians like Eminem and more recently ghostemane for rap. Bands like polyphia, a day to remember and nirvana made me want to learn guitar. I have such a wide music taste so it's hard for me to answer a single musician that inspires me cause the truth is I'm inspired by music all the time.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Produce beats and mix vocals. Tracking and mix and mastering
