Interview with Shelly
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I had the pleasure of singing on the score of the original motion picture score Rebelious, which was released in over 100 countries.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My debut album
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Sefi Carmel, Yoad Nevo
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital has made the music-making process more accessible, allowing for freer artistic expression in a wider group of people. Analog still remains pertinant to the creation of quality music production, especially in the input chain, where having a superb analog chain is extremely important
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Inspired, mix ready vocals, professionally recorded and delivered promptly.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Realising my lifelong dream of pursuing a career within the music industry.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers want to ensure that there is a musical and personal connection, often asking if I have understood their vision. My response to this an eager curiosity and receptivity in an attempt to accomplish a shared creative vision.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's easy.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always like to ask about their individual musical journey and the artistic intentions and goals behind the project we will be collaborating on.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure you connect artistically and personally with the person you chose to fulfil your creative vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would take my laptop (with Logic), my faithful Neumann U87, my beautiful Avalon 737 tube preamp, my trusted Sennheiser headphones and my Fender electro-acoustic guitar
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I come from a very musical family; my grandfather played strings for the Beatles and my father is a successful Sound Engineer/Music Producer, so you could say I grew up in the studio. I started working professionally from a young age and have been delivering professional vocals for seven years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Contemporary, Alternative, South-London Pop/Rock
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Lucy Dacus as she is one of my all-time favourite musicians and lyricists. I have already had the honour of joining her on stage for her tour in 2025 and would love the opportunity to continue th emusical conversation
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Creating a musical shorthand and joint creative ownership of the project, so that all those involved can be proud of it is the most important part of any musical project
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I have worked on a wide range of musical styles from Contemporary Pop to Film Scores to Indie Rock.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to transform the universal experience into the artist's deeply personal world, providing an authentic London sound using my individual voice.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A powerful and thoughtful vocal with attention to detail and musicality. As a current Goldsmiths Music student, I have a deep theoretical background to compliment my years of studio experience
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Upon receiving the brief and necessary materials, my first port of call is to understand the artist's vision and influences, working closely with the artist to execute their vision. I promptly and meticulously address and the music, aiming to deliver mix ready vocals within 3 to 5 days.
