Interview with Roman Rouge
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I've only worked on projects for myself so far but I'm very proud of my debut EP I released last year. It was my first and I made almost the whole thing during a pandemic. The EP is now well over millions streams across spotify and other platforms.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working towards a new bulk of music to release this year!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. It's what i started with and what is comfortable to me.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My absolute best effort to create something they and their fans will enjoy and to be honest and always respectful.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love helping others with my music by making them feel good, or help them get through certain things and give them a song that can corollate with memories they may make.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I'm barely starting out as a songwriter for others. But questions people ask me is "How do you come up with a song" and then I explain my writing process.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think I have a science and specific structure to everything I do. But I love to go with the flow and let the magic of a song come to you. Ideas for songs come out of nowhere most of the time. That's when you know it's meant to be.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want your song to be about. What are any kind of details you correlate with the vision of this song you have. How does it make you feel? And what would you want the fans to feel from this song.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice is to just to have at least some kind of a vision you have in mind and have an open mind! I love to help others and what better way than to do that by helping them achieve their artistic vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A solar powered generator, a computer, a mic, speakers and some headphones. Basically my studio setup lol.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been wanting to be successful music artist for about 5 years now and have made lots of progress since then. It's been a long journey since I didn't come from much with really no guidance. But the journey has definitely brought character.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: "Heavy" in terms of the way you can feel my songs and "memorable" based on the melodies I write.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work bruno mars someday. I really believe he has a next level understanding of music in general and I would learn so much from him.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: My best tip would be to understand your vision and what are the key details you'll need to execute that. Such as the kind of effects on your vocals, the amount of emotion, how heavy the bass is, and all the little things that will make a song feel a certain way when it's finished.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B and Pop!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Most definitely the ability to come up with melodies on the fly. However I do pride myself on my lyric writing ability and ability to work with engineers and producers to end up with a very nice end product all around.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the "movement" of a song. Typically catchy and unique melodies that the fans can remember and be wanting more of. As well as lyrics that will portray the vision the best it can.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually like to collaborate with other producers to come up with a melody idea whether it be a guitar, piano or any kind melody really. I then like to lay down multiple melody ideas when I then pick out the best ones! Lastly I found out what I or someone I'm writing for wants to write about and lay down lyrics.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I keep things very simple. I only have and need two Rokit 5 monitors, an AKG condenser mic for demo vocals and a keyboard to laydown simple melodies. My studio setup is exclusively made for creating demos and ideas.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Artist that inspire me are without a doubt Michael Jackson, The Weeknd and Drake based off of how versatile they are with their work and have something new to offer every time they release something new.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I offer mostly topline melodies and lyrics to a variety of genres over any instrumental, acoustic melody or beat.
