Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently working on Christmas music for sync.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am especially proud of the first song I sold to a music library - it was the first song that I produced 100% on my own and I am incredibly proud of it. Getting that first song signed set me on the road to getting more deals, and solidified my career in music.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Let’s connect about your project first so I can understand your vision and make sure I’m the right fit.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, definitely. If I am not the right fit, I am happy to refer a client to someone who can meet their needs.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, it's how I learned to produce and the sound quality is amazing because there are so many incredible plug ins that imitate the warmth and sound of analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will work to ensure you're happy with the finished product.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Doing what you love to do and being paid for it is a dream come true. I love everything about it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you sound like "fill in the blank". Typically, the answer is yes, I can emulate a number of popular vocal styles while still making the song original.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That singing isn't work. It is, it's taken me years of experience to consistently record quality vocals. If everyone could do it, everyone would.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the key and tempo of the song; what's the style and feel you're going for; do you have a references that can give me an idea of what you're looking for the vocals to sound similar to.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I always dreamed of being a professional singer and after years of just singing for the love of it, I decided to jump in over a decade ago and I've never looked back!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as soulful pop.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: It's hard to choose one, but I would absolutely love to work with Lady Gaga. She is such an amazing vocalist, she is a pop sensation, has incredible soulful tones, and also brings jazz and blues to life.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Comp as you go, if a take isn't great, don't save it. The great thing about recording from my home studio is I can work faster with this method.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: There's not a genre I haven't worked on, though I typically work on pop, jazz, gospel and r&b music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Every song has its own life, and I love to bring out the unique voice of that song through understanding the client's vision for the song, and using my stylings and interpretation to make the song breathe.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to sing through a song a few times to get a feel of it and then I start recording lead vocals, comping if needed, then stacking leads, bgv/harmonies.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I was inspired at an early age by the divas of music - Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston, as well as jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. I also loved the pure, smooth vocals of Karen Carpenter. In the past few years, power vocalists like Demi Lovato, Jennifer Hudson, and Adele inspire me to try new things with my voice, I totally love that.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I record lead and background vocals as well as tune vocals.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, mic, midi, guitar and speakers.
