✨ Sound Hunter. I specialize in unique sound and musical writing development such as genres, riffs, melodies, lyrics, music consultation for students and lovers of the craft and last but not least, recruiting worthy members for OPHIUCHUS CHRU which will total a membership of 13.
I am Alajn Dress. It is important to distinguish some of my fundamental qualities as a person if you wish to consider forming a relationship with me via music. I am a heavy practicioner of musical flow and I naturally direct connectivity from source to objective. My main instrument of choice is keyboard (piano, organ, MIDI, harpsichord).

Interview with Alajn Dress
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "How did you make that song?" "How did you come up with this idea?" "Who are you?" "Where are you from?" and an all time classic: "You made this (insert heavy skepticism tone)??"
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Genres I am developing that incorporate contagious rhythms and immersive atmospheres. You can say it is electronic dance music but it is not "EDM", so to speak. A large percentage of my work is derived from private development of ecosystems of sound, sometimes also akin to harbours of sonic labour. Typically I am exploring and developing a type of music unknown to anyone but myself, procedurally resembling incubation.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been around music all my life. I've listened to approximately 80,000 hours of music by now. I consider myself a proficient hunter and my interest has always been to learn more. Music to me was an alternative form of learning and inevitably became the ultimate way of learning. Music contains information that cannot be written or spoken. One song or piece of music can educate more than all of the libraries on planet Earth combined. Of course I mean the right song or musical piece.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Be specific and stop lying. This is not two things joined as one but one thing that is dependent on its other half, like an (amniote) egg shell that protects important inner contents.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Strongest is the sharpness of my ear, known as my palate, which enables me to instantly detect any dimensions and qualities that may have potential for growth or lack of. This is not to be confused with detection of frequencies when equalizing and mixing. A near second is melody generation and improvising.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I sit down and play beautiful sounds. The prime ingredient is truth when engaging with success.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The 2021 Muinota Noy release 'Una Oferta Muy Suite' EP. It is an important breakthrough for me in developing a rich, mythical fusion of corporeal moods and vast textures while laced with a fun, dance style. My role was everything, no one else but myself was involved in the creation and production of this album. I wrote, mixed, mastered and arranged every element. I also created its art from scratch and designed the cover arrangements.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently my focus is on the development of OPHIUCHUS CHRU, the "end-all be-all" quintessential sound hunter group which will produce limitlessly and earnestly.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: My job is to expand. I love music and do not want much else. My life is dedicated to the pursuit and research of glorious sounds, including harnessing pure essence of communication.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I (still) use Reason 4 by Propellerhead and Adobe Audition. My main keyboard is M-Audio KeyStudio or an Roland A-90. Microphones used are Shure SM48 and AKG D5.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both are great and have their strengths and drawbacks. I use digital out of convenience.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will hear things in a way you haven't heard before, I can guarantee that. Please check my last releases. I don't want to appear like I am spreading false information. My music speaks for itself.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: 1. I'm just another person here sounding like everyone else and trying to exploit you for money. Guess again. 2. That because I have few or no reviews on certain platforms, I'm not competent. A true master must adopt privacy as their second son if they wish to remain humble, as their beginnings. 3. That I sample other artists, need or rely on samples, or use unoriginal sources for my creations.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: All kinds of questions. I should be seen as a detective trying to solve the mystery of your project.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Do not be afraid to share ideas, as silly as you may think they are. The more open the communication, the more accuracy when searching for the right ingredients to create music.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Solid percussion (congas, djembes, etc.) and something to offer a walloping acoustic bass sound. Tape recorder with solar powered battery?
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Energetic, liberating, spiritual, raw, primal, catalytic, essential.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Hard to say but probably an astute soul like Barry Harris. A tough lover. But I think jamming is crucial and people who love music should do it much more often.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Magic. I have a tight bond with music and I serve as a conduit for its essence.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My favorite band is Henry Cow. I'm inspired by: Sting, Sade, Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Led Zeppelin, LTJ Bukem, Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, Bobbi Humphrey, Weather Report, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Zappa, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Juan Luis Guerra, Hans Zimmer, Caribou, Radiohead, Shigeo Sekito, Haruomi Hosono, Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Fela Kuti, Rimsky-Korsakov, Darren Tate, Will Smith, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ruben Blades, The Prodigy, Cocteau Twins, Genesis, Ennio Morricone, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Peter Gabriel. Madonna, David Bowie, Everything But The Girl, Sumo, Boy George & The Culture Club, Julio Iglesias, Imogen Heap, Howard Jones, Marvin Gaye, Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, Brian Eno, M83, Pauline Oliveros, slowthai, The Budos Band, Happy The Man, The Doors, Lenny Kravitz, Rufige Kru, Elton John, The Clash, Michael Jackson, Univers Zero, Devil Doll, Magma, Camilo Sesto, Beast Coast, Herbie Hancock, Electrosoul System, Kendrick Lamar, 2Pac, Egg, Aksak Maboul, Seba, DJ Marky, Klute just to name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Creating a sonic terrain for the vision. Immersive, ethereal worlds that transport the listener and offer the genuine qualities of storytelling, with or without lyrics.
