Brian Sheil on SoundBetter

Award winning Irish Producer/Mixer and Mastering Engineer with x8 iTunes Number 1 records, an official Number 1 on the Official Irish Album Chart and over 20 million streams on Spotify (2022). I specialize in Producing/Co-Producing Pop & Hip Hop records. I specialize Mixing/Mastering these genres too along with Country also.

Currently, I'm located in Ireland, so I think in some respects that is part of my point of difference. I'm currently offering remote production, mixing and/or mastering. I also work well collaborating with other producers for co-producing a project.

Generally, how I work is that I setup a call with the client initially, have a chat or email/text and see what's required and where the project is currently at.

PRODUCTION/CO-PRODUCTION
If it's a production/co-production, especially if something has been recorded in some form, I'll ask for the client to send me that, or indeed the session files.

MIXING
Similarly, I will ask to send me the session files and/or the wet/dry stems, whatever is integral to what the client is hearing to the mix, and a reference.

MASTERING
Usually just the stereo 24 bit WAV file with about 4-6db of headroom. Occasionally, I will ask for stems or if the clients requires it.

I use Pro Tools and Logic, so I can receive project files from both.
I generally turn around a Mix 1 within 2-6 days (depends), and a Master within 24 hours.

Payment wise, I usually ask for 50% up front and 50% upon completion on the project. I don't charge per hour, I prefer to charge per project.

Looking forward to hearing from you. I've got great Irish stories and jokes to keep our Zoom calls exciting

The best mixing and mastering engineer I’ve ever worked with! Super quick turn around and understands exactly the vibe of the track. I couldn’t / wouldn’t work with anyone else!
    Also incredibly kind and helpful!
Just a naturally talented musician 🙏🏻 My favourite Irishman!!

I recently started working with Brian on many tracks regarding both mixing and mastering services. Brian for months has been extremely tentative to what I have wanted in my mix and the vision that I have for my tracks as a whole. I was so impressed with the first 2 mix/masters that Brian had done for my project, and we continue to work together on my new music. I highly recommend Brian for his professionalism and his attention to detail with sound delivery. He will ensure you are happy with your track!

I’ve worked with Brian on multiple songs in the past and am working with him on songs for my next upcoming releases. I trust his ear and his ability to create the track of my dreams. He always comes through with quality mixes and masters that I’m very happy with. He’s really prompt with responses and great at being able to take mix notes and integrate them into the track. Very friendly, and professional. I highly recommend working with him!

I had Brian mix original music to score a series. He works so quickly and efficiently, I felt like I never had to worry not just about the quality of the music, but about checking in or deadlines. He’s extremely easy to get into a creative groove with, making him both professional AND fun to work with. I will definitely be reaching out to Brian again for my music production needs.

Brian is a professional in every aspect of his work. His communication on our feature film and our feature documentary was second to none. We'll be using Brian a lot going forward and have no problem recommending Brian for any audio job.

Brian is a consummate professional. He mastered a song for me. He knew instinctively what I wanted and sprinkled his magic on my song. The result was fantastic. Brian was always prompt in his replies to any questions I had. I would highly recommend his services. A total gent and a bit of a genius.

Brian scores 5stars in all the virtues a producer needs to make an artist’s vision real.
When providing a producer with your latest creation, you hope to meet someone with integrity and patience.
These rare qualities are integral in how Brian does business.

Brian Sheil has worked on various projects with me. I have always found him to be most agreeable but with a flair for intuition, which sets him apart from others. The quality of his work is undeniably good and his quest to be the best at his game sets him over others. I have recorded with some of the best Orchestras but this didn’t phase Brian. He was as eager to learn from me just as I was to learn from him. There is always something new to be learned, and Brian hails from the same school of thought. Brian will rise to the top of his class and I hope I am somewhere to see it !

I have worked with Brian on a number of productions in the theatre at Visual Carlow. He has been more than helpful with all of our audio requirements for each production.
He is pro-efficient and very knowledgable at his job. I would highly recommend Brian for any of your Mixing, Mastering & Production needs.

I sent song files from Burbank, California to Brian in Ireland to work on a mixing and mastering project for my son’s debut album. I can assure you the communication was streamlined, thorough and effective. We received several submissions of Brian’s work to review and resubmit with suggestions; he was 100% responsive, and added his magical touch. His awareness and expertise in music cognition and psychoacoustics brought my son’s music to a whole new level. My son’s album, Beacon Hill, was a nominee by the International Independent Music Awards for Best Alt/Indie Rock Album of the year!

I have worked with Brian on many occasions. Very professional and easy to work with. His ears are some of the best in the business. Can’t recommend enough. He puts his all into every record he works on and really goes the extra mile to to make sure the artist is 100% happy. 10/10

Brian "Sheily" was recommended through a friend and all I can say is that I have never worked with anyone as professional as him. His work ethics and perfectionism is rare to find these days. His talent succeeds in all genres and styles of music, from Country, Pop, EDM, Dance to even Afro Beats... Would definitely recommend!!!!

Interview with Brian Sheil

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Hybrid, really. You still can't beat some of the sound of analog.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: To deliver the highest quality product, whether it's a production, mix or master, and that they always leave feeling happy and satisfied.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The creative energy and state of 'flow' you can attain. I can't find that sense of 'losing yourself' anywhere else. Possibly running a 10k might do it. It's amazing.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: Pro Tools 2022, Logic Pro X, Universal Audio Apollo 8, Antelope Discrete 8, AKG 414, Rode NT5s, Rode K2, SSL Six Mixer, Telefunken AK-51, TC Electronic Meter, TL Audio 5001 Preamp, Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, PC Windows 12, Genelec 8040 speakers, ADAM A7X speakers, Avalon Preamp/EQ, TL 5051 Preamp/Compressor, All Waves plugins, FabFilter, Softube, Lexicon, Universal Audio Plugins, Ominsphere, Plugin Alliance etc, Ominsphere and a multitude of soft synths.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: Mostly singles from eight different artists across the globe. Some from Los Angeles, NYC and some actually from my hometown of Carlow.

  11. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  12. A: Yes, Dr. Ford, better known as Daniel Robert Ford. He's a great Producer/Mixer based out in Nashville originally from Cali. Yes, Cali people know how to make country records too you know :)

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Telefunken ELAM 251, Neve 1073, Pro Tools, Macbook Pro M2 Max, Apollo 8p interface.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I intially launched Ireland's first internet radio station in 2004, called Klubb FM. That gave me the bug for all things audio whether it was how my station sounded or indeed the choice of records I played which were mostlyy CHR/Top 40 tracks. I'm a producer, mixer and mastering engineer about 12 years now.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Pop, with a focus on vocals, smooth and creating energy on the record.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: The Weeknd. Them vocals. Holy moly.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: An instrument that is recorded really well from source will make a mix much better. There is so much emphasis on 'mix' and plugins these days. The art of recording something really well is been lost and if you nail this, your mixes will improve.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Pop/Hip Hop and Country

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: Mixing/Mastering

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Max Martin, David Foster, Serban Ghenea, Jaycen Joshua and Steve Mac

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: The common type of work I do for my clients is production and mixing, whether that is on the same project or in isolation of just producing or just mixing etc. These days the lines become blurred between these two processes. I'm known also for mastering other producers records.
