Interview with Ben Spiess

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: I would definitely recommend my mentor Brendan Duffey.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I don't think there is a correct answer. If it sounds good, it sounds good. I would love to have analog gear but I'm perfectly fine with in the box.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I promise that I will help you achieve your sonic vision and translate what is in your head into the production.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love being able to hear new music and solve problems in a technical and artistic manner.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: I would take an Shure SM7B because of it's versatility, my laptop (DAW and plugins included of course), a guitar, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, and a pair Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: I like to focus on the emotion and attitude of a song.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Always have a plan. Don't just reach for a plugin. Set yourself up with what you want to achieve technically and artistically.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I would say my strongest skill is my ability to critically listen to a piece of music.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I mainly provide mixing and mastering services.
