Interview with DKQ MUSIC

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I use Ableton Live Studio Suit 10. I have a long list of the top industry standard plug-ins. My main house mic is a Neumann U87 that I run through a Neve 1073 to a UAD Apollo Twin. I primarily work "in the box" (on my computer).

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on a 5 song EP for an artist that sounds like Adele and Amy Winehouse. She will be announcing her project in 2022.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both. Analog for warm and buttery highs. Digital for convinces.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: It is my commitment and mission to make sure you're 100% happy with your song. My job is make your vision come to life and I will give your song the tender love and care it deserves!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: The goose bumps and the chills.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What is your end goal with music? What artists do you look up to? What inspires you to make music?

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Definitely have a clear and thought out direction as to what you'd like your music to sound like. This will ultimately help me nail your vision. I prefer a reference track along with a demo or voice memo.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Computer, Neve 1073, UAD TWIN, U47, Keyboard

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Resist the temptation to add high frequencies.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: I am very inspired by Ian Kirkpatrick's work especially on "Future Nostalgia" by Dua Lipa. But overall inspired by anything that makes you FEEL.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Full scale production from the ground up. That includes sometimes performing all instrumentation and programming.
