Hello to all of you in Music land, I'm a singer/music producer/writer and performer that's been doing music since I was 6 years old. Some things I love outside of the sonic arts are hiking, chess, and reading Sci-Fi. I consider myself versatile when it comes to contributing to music making or performing and look forward to working with you. Cheers!

Interview with Channel Dark
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm incredibly proud of having worked on "The Maestro's Tale" in my band What Strange Beasts. I provided Drums, singing and songwriting on the album alongside my bandmates.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently, some vocal work for a client, and working on an album with my band, as well as looking to put out a synthwave track each month.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I've worked extensively with ESOF Records in the past and highly recommend them.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: If there's the ability, use analog. Without getting into deep math about how computers process Fourier transforms to turn 1's and 0's into a soundwave, something does get lost in digital. However, that's not to say you can't have incredible sounding music made or through a digital medium.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to keep working with you until we have made something you are excited about.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Personally there is something magical about music to me, I couldn't think of working with some other vocation and having the same sense of awe for it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "Can you sing like _____?" I can incorporate their style into what I'm doing, yes.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: While it suits some producers, I don't spend all day in front of a screen. Inspiration is incredibly important for creativity, and putting oneself in different places while thinking up musical ideas is critical.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What style are you aiming for? Can you reference what you're hearing in your head? How soon are you looking to get this? What software do you work with?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't be shy in reaching out!! The first step is reaching out and establishing a dialogue so we can find out if I can provide what you need.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A tent, a flash light, a gps beacon, a hatchet, and a guitar.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been making music since I was 6, have been in multiple bands and music projects; for the past 9 years I've been working in DAWs to produce my own work, and help others with their work.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Vocally, a bit of R&B and pop in my singing. For music writing, very in the vein of synthpop and synthwave.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tough to say! I really enjoy working with all sorts of artists, though in a long lost world the late great Avicii would have me sing on a track of theirs.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Everything starts with having a great sound for your instrument you're building or recording. If it doesn't sound great without any of the bells and whistles it's not going to sound great with them.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: It's been a lot of synthpop as of late, but I also work with Folk and Rock as well.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say my singing and melody writing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creative enhancements to it when wanted, a good ear for what's missing or what's needed in the piece
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Understanding with reference what you are looking for in a melody / lyric set or performance. References going back and forth are always helpful with this kind of thing. Then, I will come up with a couple ideas to send through, drafts for approval. Once one is selected and approved I'll work to refine it into something more polished.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work mostly in Reason by Propellerhead, utilize a Mark Of The Unicorn I/O setup to interface my instrumentation; a Neumann TLM102 microphone, a Schecter Diamond series Electric Guitar and a Taylor 614ce acoustic guitar. I also use some outboard synths such as the Studiologic Sledge and the Novation Mininova.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: FM-84 and The Midnight are my biggest inspirations, but I've always looked up to the incredible Flaming Lips and X Japan for their creativity, tenacity and longevity.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Typically singing or assiting with lyrics and melodies
