Since learning from first-class engineers and producers and participating in countless major label projects, I'm always looking for fantastic songs to work on. My mixes have landed on a few Spotify editorial playlists (some of which have surpassed 100k plays), whereas my work as a Melodyne editor is sought after by world-class engineers and mixers.
Having cut my musical teeth in France, it was clear that London was the place I could best develop my production and engineering chops. I got my Music Production degree and very quickly after, the opportunity to work at The Pierce Rooms as an assistant engineer. I initially grew up listening to rock and indie music, but playing a small part in massive pop projects has been a real eye-opener and a joy to work on every time.
Since then, my growing skills as a mixer and engineer have opened up so many exciting opportunities. I've been lucky enough to work with incredible artists and talented collaborators, whom over the years have become great friends. The best thing about the process is connecting with any song's vision, and giving it further meaning through a fine balance of technique and musical sensibility. Mixing can be an individualistic effort as much as it can be a collaborative process - I welcome everything in between and always work with the full potential of my abilities. Good times.

Interview with Jules Gulon
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing! I have a fairly conservative approach to my work (as to respect the efforts and intentions previously put into the songs) - "the exact same song with the same production, but better." That said, I will happily start a conversation if there's any room for me to be creative in. It's not uncommon for me to work on additional production and layers to give the track a lift.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Butch Vig will always have a place in my heart for his legendary work in the 90s. But other fantastic people worth mentioning are Eric Valentine, Rich Costey, Adam Noble, Tom Dalgety, Jake Sinclair and Andrew Scheps. Each of them have different styles and specific fortes, but the work they put into a song is incredible every time. Oh my god.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MacBook pro, UA Apollo, Amphion monitors, SSL-style bus compressor and tape emulators.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Your arrangement skills are as important as your production skills.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: If the track allows it, I pride myself in going after punchy sounding drums and pristinely clean vocals.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: What it specifically needs.
