Interview with Tom Siemerink
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: So so many, every artist has their own challenges and abilities that make you learn something new. This makes it fun to work with almost everyone.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to ask yourself, why am I doing what I'm doing in this project. If you can explain that your decisions are probably right and if not ask yourself why isn't this working and what am I trying to accomplish.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Punk, Pop, and Singer-Songwriters.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: The ability to start objectively and fully open-minded.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First of all, I objectively listen to the material without any input to start with and write down the things that pique my interest in the material. After that, I talk to my clients and see what their intents for the song are and to see what I can add in the recording, mix, or master.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a professional set of monitors and access to enough microphones and channels to record a full band live in a room.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Eric Valentine, Adam Noble, Steve Albini and Joe Barresi.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Recording, mixing, and mastering.
