Interview with Bruno Ravlic

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently worked with a talented underground house artist from the UK who had a solid track but wasn’t satisfied with the mix. I took on the mixing and mastering, gave some arrangement feedback, and helped elevate the track to label-ready quality. It got signed, and seeing it performed live was a moment of real pride.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I’m finishing several house and tech house tracks for international clients, helping develop a few artist EPs, and working on my own music as Bruns Lay, which fuses Croatian vocals with underground house.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not atm.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. All the way. I believe that with todays technology we got to the point where analog emulations are so close that even an expert/ professional listener could not tell a difference.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: You’ll get 100% dedication, honest feedback, and a final product that’s not just technically sound but also emotionally impactful. I care deeply about every track I touch.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Hearing the transformation—from a raw demo or rough mix to a track that feels finished and emotionally resonant. I love knowing I helped bring someone’s vision to life.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: Can you make my track sound like [insert artist name]? A: I can definitely help you get closer in terms of balance and polish, but your song should still retain your identity. Let’s aim for inspiration, not imitation.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That mastering is just about making a song louder. It’s so much more than that—mastering is about balance, feel, and enhancing the track to shine across all systems. Also, people sometimes underestimate how much mixing affects emotion.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: 1. What’s your vision for the track? 2. Do you have any reference songs? 3. What are your biggest concerns or goals for the mix/master? 4. Do you want any creative processing or should we keep it clean?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who listens to your needs, not just your stems. A good engineer doesn’t just process sound—they understand the feeling behind your music. Communication, trust, and alignment are just as important as technical skill.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: 1. Mac with my favorite plugins 2. Apollo 3. Ollo Audio X1 4. Keyboard & Mouse 5. Monitor

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started out as a passionate musician and DJ, then gradually transitioned into mixing and mastering after falling in love with the technical side of sound. I’ve been engineering professionally for over 6 years, with hundreds of projects under my belt and nearly a thousand 5-star reviews from artists worldwide.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Minimalistic yet impactful. I aim for clean, spacious, and dynamic mixes that groove effortlessly and feel alive. Whether it’s underground or crossover, my sound is intentional and refined.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with artists like Chris Lake, Skrillex or John Summit because their grooves are infectious, their production is clean, and they always bring something fresh to the table. Collaborating with someone like that would be an exciting challenge.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Spend more time on fewer elements. Sometimes subtracting is more powerful than adding. Clarity in arrangement makes everything easier in the mix.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I primarily work on house, tech house, afrouhouse, minimal, and electronic music, but I also work with artists in pop, trap, and occasionally drum & bass and hip-hop. My core is underground and dance music, but I love bringing my skills to different genres as long as the vibe is right.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My ability to balance technical precision with artistic sensibility. I know when to be surgical and when to let the music breathe. I also bring honesty to the table—if something can be improved, I’ll let my clients know, always with the goal of making their music the best it can be.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring clarity, depth, groove, and emotion. I’m not here to just polish a track—I want it to hit the listener exactly how the artist intended, or even better. My job is to make sure every element of the mix contributes to the overall story of the song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My process always starts with listening—really understanding the song and the artist’s intention. From there, I take a meticulous, detail-oriented approach to mixing and mastering. Communication is key; I like to involve clients in the process so we’re aligned from start to finish. My goal is always to elevate the track while maintaining the artist’s identity.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I run a private, acoustically treated studio equipped with a fully digital setup—combining precision digital tools with my main monitors, Focal Trio 6be. My monitoring environment is extremely accurate, which allows me to translate mixes across all playback systems. The studio is designed for focus, vibe, and high-end audio performance.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by artists and engineers who push creative boundaries. From a production perspective, I admire Skrillex for his versatility, KEINEMUSIK for their groove, and Fred Again for his finesse. As an engineer, I look up to industry legends who can balance clarity, punch, and emotion in a mix, such as Luca Pretolesi, Kevin Grainger and Mark Maitland.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I specialize in mixing and mastering, primarily for electronic music artists—especially house, tech house, and underground dance music. My clients range from emerging artists to seasoned professionals, and I help bring their tracks to a competitive, release-ready level while staying true to their creative vision.
