Mix Engineer, all genres, 5 star reviews. Professionally treated studio, Hi-end monitoring, analog gear. My goal is to work with you to enhance the energy, power, emotion and personality of your songs.
My priority when mixing is to help you to realise your vision, the sound you have in your head. My focus is always on bringing out the energy and emotion of the song.
I work in a professional studio complex in London, acoustically treated studio using hi-end monitoring and analog gear.
I have mixed a variety of genres, including Alternative, Shoegaze, Indie, Rock, Pop, Metal, Trap, Hip Hop, Ballads, Singer/Songwriter and more. Please check out my playlist for examples of my recent work.
I have worked with solo artists, bands, duos, rappers and beatmakers. I am happy and comfortable to work with any genre.
I will work closely with you to assure you get a mix that you love!
Why hire a mix engineer when you have a DAW yourself? As an artist, focus on creation of your art, leave the mixing to a mix engineer and free up your precious time. Mixing your own material can be a long and arduous task, and it's easy to second guess and go round in circles with your own material - a second pair of ears, perspective and an acoustically treated environment, with hi-end monitoring and gear can help to bring your songs to the finish line and ensure the finished result can sit alongside the artists you love in a playlist and stand out!

Working with Ross was smooth and easy with a great balance of quality and value. He did three different single mixes for me each of which sounds much better than before. I look forward to working with Ross again.

Ross exceeded my most optimistic expectations for my music. He paid close attention to sonic details, kept in constant contact regarding the progress of this production, he was friendly and encouraging and nothing I've made in 20 years as a professional has ever sounded as great and complete as this. I'm already planning my next job for him.
Interview with Ross Mixes
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Several years playing in bands, recording in major studios, mixing demos, b sides and live versions. Now mixing full time.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Easy going but focussed.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Difficult question as there are so many! Maybe Radiohead as the production is always great and they are the kind of artist who takes risks and likes weird sounds :)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't mix your own songs! :) Try to do the best recordings you can with the resources you have to hand and focus on the capturing the feel and emotion of the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Alternative rock, grunge, shoegaze, indie, rock n roll, new wave, pop, hip hop, metal, singer songwriters, punk, retrowave, electro, classic rock and more.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Bringing energy to mixes, I am very easy to work with and communicate with and I believe in working without ego to ensure the artist is 100% thrilled with the finished result.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: The most important thing I am listening for when I hear your song is how I can use the mix to bring out the energy and emotion in the song. I believe each song is a journey and requires emotional peaks and troughs to guide the listener through and encourage them to listen again. My next step is to establish which sounds will suit the vibe of the track, drum treatments, guitar tones, vocal tone etc. This will establish the direction for the track. I then work to implement this in the mix and bring about a result you will love.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Call/Communicate with artist to understand their vision, listening to reference tracks and forming a direction. I will then provide a rough mix to get feedback, I will then finish the mix and incorporate any changes required. I am happy to do unlimited revisions until your are 100% happy with the finished product.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Hybrid mixing setup, Studio One is my main DAW but I also use Pro Tools and Ableton if you have session files or work in these DAWs I can help. I am able to reamp guitars through Helix, Neural DSP and many high end FX. I have a vast library of Drum replacement software to make your drums punch, analog hardware synths and more to help bring your production to life.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Andy Wallace, Peter Katis, Joe Baressi, Terry Date, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Josh Homme, Tool, The National, Future Islands, My Bloody Valentine, Melvins, Thom Yorke. Ask me!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is their vision for the track? Any reference tracks? Anything they hate particuarly! (Reverb, Delay preferences etc)
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, arrangement assistance, mastering.
