Raena was so easy to work with, her vocals were amazing & she gave 100% to the project. She followed our directions extremely well. She was approachable, flexible, and skyped with us so that we could elaborate on the project further. She responded promptly & kept us informed at various times on how the project was going. We highly recommend Raena!
Working with Raena was a great experience: she has a unique voice, shows true musicality and knows exactly how to use her talent to bring a song to life (from a musical as well as technical point of view) Moreover, by adding her own creativity she pushes it to a higher level. Outstanding professional, highly recommended.
A beautiful voice and real talent. An absolute pleasure to work with.
Interview with Raena
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am in a duo called LAIRA with a producer, I am especially proud of the last two tracks we have released as I wrote the vocal melody, lyrics and backing vocals for these tracks. I love the Alternative RnB sound that we are creating.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I have numerous projects on the go at the moment, all writing and recording vocals for producers.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: The clients that have hired me so far have been great to work with.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because I know how to use it! Otherwise, Analog is a timeless and beautiful way to record.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To be a good person to work and communicate with and to always produce excellent results that clients will be happy with!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being able to sing and make music everyday.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: To sing a line a certain way, I will always try to meet their requests to keep customers happy!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I don't think I know of any!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I will always ask to hear the instrumental before agreeing to work on a track as I need to be passionate about the project! I also require their deadline.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know what vocal sound you are looking for and then find it through the audio samples provided on profiles. Different singers don't just have different tones and ranges but they can also bring a completely different energy to your track. Have a voice in mind first and then find it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Roland digital piano, Sontronics STC3 microphone, Presonus Interface, Macbook Pro and my Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO headphones.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been singing and song writing for over ten years but I have only started collaborating with other musicians in the last four years. Whilst studying for my degree in Creative Musicianship specialising in Vocals, I have played many prestigious venues in central London including The Royal Albert Hall and Camden Assembly. I have also recorded in numerous studios with producers. At the age of 22, I have recently left university and I am ready to take the next steps in my career to pursue a life of music.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Alternative RnB.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Pharrell Williams because his production and arrangements are so authentic and out of the box!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When receiving an instrumental to record vocals over, if you haven’t received the BPM for the track, go to 'Metering' > BPM Counter to find the tempo. Once put in time the track is much easier for you to record vocals to and for the producer to edit.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
Q: What's your strongest skill?
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My unique tone and creative backing vocals if requested.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I will learn the brief then record the vocals in my home recording studio onto Logic Pro X. Once finished, I will bounce the audio files without any effects and We Transfer them to the client.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Sontronics STC3 microphone, Presonus Interface, Macbook Pro, Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO headphones and Logic Pro X used in my home recording studio.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Kehlani, H.E.R, Ariana Grande.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Session vocals.
