I'm an aspiring alternative RNB / Trapsoul artist and a record producer from South Africa , characterized by moody sound accompanied by a forggy production .
Jabulani Bakane known as Jabu Nvmbr is an artist by heart and a singer by soul . My music blurs the line between R&B soul and rap hip hop . I could be on my thug shit and I'd be sexualizing it with my warm low harmonies that you'd miss the point and assume I am being lovey dovey like a typical R&B nigga . I am here to revolutionize R&B and give it a modern feel . Born and bred in a small town in the Free State called Marquard my childhood revolved around me travelling all over South Africa settling in new places , I never really had a stable / permanent home so being in different environments and diversity's came with different experiences and somewhere somehow sparked my love for art and ever since I have been working tirelessly trying to earn my stripes .

Interview with Jabu Nvmbr
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started writing when I was 15 in 2016, recorded my first demo in 2016 with friend's laptop and headsets it was low quality like really low quality but from that I think people started seeing my potential and being called to different studios and for collaborations etc. But to someone reading this right now I would to say watch the space for this year 2021 is gonna be my year , for most of the time I feel like I am not where I am supposed to be and it's gonna take a lot of work and consistency to get there but 2021 is the year I do that more especially because I have the necessary resources to accomplish that
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My debut EP " Lost Souls " did really well , I've seen people whom I thought would never support me show love and pay homage and yo Alot of girls really went crazy over the project and we did a lot of numbers on SoundCloud I think we are heading towards 1000 SoundCloud streams rn 💌
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on a couple of singles I still have to record for 2021 , which I believe are gonna change my life crazily this year and I am also planning a tour towards the end of the year but Its not finalized yet but I will announce everything on my socials soon as my team and I comes to a conclusion
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: No
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital because we live in modern times and technology has made life easier.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will definitely get the job done and if they are not satisfied I will start the work again from scratch if still then I will refund . But I want them to know I will rather fail having tried.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It's adventurous and challenging. Everyday you come across brand new experiences and challenges and those challenges becomes a learning process
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long do you take to complete the task = within 5 working days cycle because I am still a student and I have to also prioritize and manage my time accordingly
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That you can master the art , nobody really gets to where they want to be . We always feel like we could do better and learn new techniques
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I would actually like to sit down with my clients get to know them better , read their minds , understand their vision and that way it will be simple to create something for their liking
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be aware of the fact that I am self taught and self made record producer so my knowledge derives from a certain style of music that I do so make sure you really like my production style and that's what you want . I know I can be versatile but my key sound is alternative R&B / Trapsoul
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Guitar , my mobile phone to record ofcourse , headsets I wanna be able to feel each element of the music , piano & a microphone
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is basically a combination of R&B soul and Hip hop , some would perceive it as moody because that's how my personality is and I like to also express that in my art . I make music you would play in a hotel room floor at 12:00 pm alone with warm low luminous city lights !
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Bryson Tiller as much as I look up to Brent Faiyaz alot because I feel like the working with Bryson Tiller the bar won't be that high as we have a similar vocal range and he is the inventor of trapsoul so a feature with him would be very personal to me and a way of paying homage to the guy for paving a way for us who likes both R&B and Hip hop so we blend them to create a new genre " Trapsoul"
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Know what you are doing , that's key !!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B soul , I feel like it's one of those genres I can simply lay out my emotions the way they are and be able to connect with people , maybe on a spiritual and emotional penetrative way you know. I can rap too and do pop but I classify and see myself as an R&B nigga
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Between Songwriting and Mixing one of them has to be my strongest , but I'm just not yet sure which area between the two I dominate
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: When I am in song it's obvious to tell , nobody does like I do and it's just self - explanatory. I bring that Jabu Nvmbr spice !!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I have to feel something in order for me to create art if I do not feel anything and I force myself to create something it might end up being mediocre . So basically every work of art I release you should know it comes deep from within , it's pure and authentic emotions . I feel like that's what is ! " A form of expression , a voice to exercise/ release emotions we can't put in words "
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I create music from my PC only unless I have to do mixing or other production services then I book a professional studio or use my friend's studio since he has all the equipment . But I am looking forward to slowly rebuild my studio this year and master playing instruments like the Piano and Guitar.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I draw a lot of inspiration from creators like Brent Faiyaz , Kanye West , Bryson Tiller , Frank Ocean and The Weeknd . The list is long to be frank but I feel like these are my top 5
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I have wrote a couple of songs for other artists , also done mixing and vocal arrangement services
I was the Mixing & sang in this production
