Zach Valles on SoundBetter

I'm a pop producer and musician with a studio in Austin, Tx. My mission with every song is to turn it into a polished, radio-ready song that you and I are both satisfied with. I always strive to make the song competitive in the billboard charts and to meet YOUR overall vision and sound for it.

My expertise as a producer is in creating fully flushed pop songs that resemble what's on the billboard charts. When making a song, I always keep in mind what sounds are trending and what's hot on the market today to give a song the best chance of succeeding. Interview with Zach Valles

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: I usually work on pop/dance stuff, but I have recently been experimenting with K-pop, hip-hop, and worship/contemporary christian music. So my musical skill consists of a wide variety of inspirations.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Catchy, modern, melodic, and expensive sounding. I also love genre-bending, so my productions take inspiration from all types of music.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: My favorite music producers are Avicii, Kygo, Max Martin, and Benny Blanco. All of these guys basically cultivated a new genre of music that became popular in today's culture. Avicii was a huge catalyst for the EDM boom, Kygo helped the tropical house genre gain popularity, and both Max Martin and Benny Blanco have written tons of pop songs that you and I have probably both grown up with. All of these guys definitely inspire me.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I normally try to understand where you are in your project first. Whether you have an idea already, have some production done, or if you have no idea what you want the song to sound like. I then work with you to try to understand your vision and sound for the song. From there I start making the track and the journey begins :)

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: Chris Martin from Coldplay and Kygo. These 2 guys were some of my main inspirations when I first started making music and still are to this day.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Don't over think things when making music. Often simplicity is key. Also, use youtube to find videos of how famous songs were made so you can learn their production techniques.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Versatility and song melody.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: When producing a song from scratch, I try to understand your vision of the song while implementing trending sounds that are hot in the market today. When remixing, I try to understand whats hot in the market currently, as well as trying to find the best approach that makes sense to take. Every remix requires a different approach, so it's important to spend time planning what direction would be most suitable.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I have my own home studio in Austin, Tx. I use Logic Pro X as my main D.A.W and Yamaha HS7 studio monitors.

  19. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  20. A: Depends. When it comes to synths and bass lines, analog gear can sound better at times. However, digital gear has come a long way and can be more practical since it doesn't take up space in the studio and just sits in your computer. If I am looking for a particular sound that can only be replicated on Analog gear, then Analog all the way. If I can replicate an Analog sound with a digital plugin and it sounds just as good, then digital.
