Daniel is a qualified sound engineer from South Africa who graduated from South Africa's Top Audio Institution 'Cape Audio College'.

With years of experience in mixing and mastering artists locally he feels it's time to expand his expertise.

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My mixtape 'In Due Time' because I did that with the most minimalist equipment and it came out good. Second it would be Zorch - Zola mixtape because two songs I Produced and Engineered were nominated for awards.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: On my own EP.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No one but I would recommend it.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, they make some great emulation plugin these days and it makes the work flow faster.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Quality

  12. A: The ability to express yourself through sound and doing what I love.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How long will it take and I normally say 3 to 5 days.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: They think you're a Dejay.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What reference tracks do they have in mind to compare the song to. If nothing I find something.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: That quality takes time and can't be rushed or forced.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I always loved music, I have been making beats since a teenager and after school I decided to studio sound technology and have been freelancing artist for the last 7 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Clean with a booming low end.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Drake - Because he makes good music Dr Dre - My inspiration and imagine the knowledge i could absorb from working him. Eminem - Who wouldn't?

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: You don't need all that 16Khz, High Cut that scratchy monsters.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Hip-Hop, Trap and Trap Soul

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Mixing.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: My own taste and knowledge about frequencies that results into a professional sounding song. My mixes has a very clean sound to it.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My work process I always start with organisation whether color coating or renaming, then straight to editing that includes comping, vocal tuning or quantizing. After that I start mixing, then referencing it on different playback systems, and when it passes the car test, I finish the mastering and do the references check again.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have my PC connected to a Mbox 2 interface with Yamaha HS50 monitors for mixing with a Dixon for the sub frequencies. When it comes to vocal recording I have a SE Shield with a Samson Co3 Microphone that does its job. The recording, mixing and mastering is done on Pro Tools and the Production and Beat Production on FL Studio with my M-Audio Keystation49 MK3.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: My biggest inspiration is Andre Young AKA Dr Dre. The man is the full package and has the ear and a professionalism about his touch to his songs that makes his productions stand out whether the beat or the mixing.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common work I do is mixing and mastering of songs but I do get artist that regularly wants to record at my home studio then I still proceed with the mixing and mastering of those songs.
