Interview with Zaela
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing since I was ten years old, inspired by Taylor Swift. I Learned how to play guitar when I was 12 and ukulele when I was 13. I took music theory classes all through high school and was in choir since 6th grade, so I got good at harmonizing with multiple singers at the same time. Right after I graduated high school I started creating professional tracks with producers from all over the world, soon getting attention from record labels, A&R's, and collaborators. I am now graduated from college, and I love working with clients in order to help them achieve their projects vision, therefore feeding my forever passion for writing every darn day.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Tell providers in detail what you're looking for, anything and everything matters!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My guitar, my ukelele, my other guitar, and a guitar strap to hold my guitar.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Writing, creating vocal melodies that are catchy, and singing harmonies/topline melodies.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually ask for as many details from the client to understand what exactly they're looking for, or I ask for reference tracks to send over so I'll get the perfect idea. I usually start writing and getting ideas the next day, once I'm finished writing the track I send it over to get approved from the client. Then I professionally record it in the studio.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My recording studio consists of a surround noise reduction sound shield, covering a Shure Sm7b Mic. This Mic has been used by Micheal Jackson, Ariana grande, Justin Beiber and more, so it’s a credible cardioid dynamic mic. I connect the mic into a CL-1 Cloudlifter used to amplify the sound of the mic without adding extra gain/noise. I plug everything into a Focusrite Scarlett as my audio interface, and I use Logic Pro as my DAW to record vocals.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by Louis the child, Alessia Cara, Kygo, Notd, Clairo.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually write edm, pop or rnb genres, but have written songs for folk and indie music as well. I usually write the entire topline vocal melody, lyrics, and provide a studio recording of my vocal for the client. I am willing to do all of these or something specific to what you need.
