Interview with Opebrass
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m really proud of is the track “Skydance” by The Radio Arkestra, which features your trumpet performance. In this collaboration, I handled the production, mixing, mastering, and of course, my live trumpet recording, helping bring the song from a rough demo to a polished, emotional piece. You can listen to it here: [Listen to “Skydance” featuring Sunday Bayode Emmanuel on Spotify] The final result didn’t just sound professional—it carried the exact emotion and energy the artist envisioned. It was incredibly rewarding to see how a remote collaboration could result in something so vibrant and heartfelt. It’s a reminder that music truly connects—regardless of distance.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now, I’m working on a mix of projects that include producing and mixing Afrobeat tracks, recording trumpet parts for a few international collaborations, and mastering songs for upcoming independent releases. I’m also developing content for my podcast community, where we blend conversations, music, and creativity. Every project keeps me inspired because I get to connect with artists from different backgrounds and help shape music that’s ready for the world.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I believe SoundBetter is full of talented professionals, and while I may not personally know everyone here, I encourage clients to look for providers who are transparent, have solid reviews, and whose work resonates with your style. For areas outside my expertise (for example, specialized session players or certain vocal styles), I’m always happy to help point clients in the right direction toward someone who can best serve their project. At the end of the day, the goal is always to make sure you get the best possible result for your music.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I love both, but I mostly work digital because it offers flexibility, speed, and the ability to collaborate with artists around the world. Digital tools allow me to recall sessions instantly, experiment with endless creative options, and deliver high-quality mixes on time. That said, I appreciate the warmth and character of analog gear—and whenever possible, I combine both worlds. My approach is “digital precision with analog feel” so the final product is clean, modern, and still full of life.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to treat every project with the same passion and attention to detail as if it were my own. My goal is to deliver music that is not only technically polished and industry-standard, but also true to your unique vision and style. I’ll communicate clearly, meet deadlines, and make sure you feel heard throughout the process. Above all, I promise that when we finish, you’ll have a track you can be proud to share with the world.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most is the chance to transform an idea into a finished piece of music that truly connects with people. There’s something magical about taking a raw vocal, a simple melody, or even just an idea in someone’s head, and shaping it into a polished, emotional track. I also enjoy the collaborative process—working with artists from around the world, sharing creativity, and seeing the joy on their faces (or in their messages) when they hear the final result. For me, it’s not just about sound; it’s about helping artists express themselves and leave a lasting impact.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “How long will it take?” – Most projects take 2–5 days depending on the complexity. I always communicate timelines upfront and keep you updated. “How many revisions do I get?” – I offer multiple revisions because I want you to be 100% happy. The goal is to make the song sound exactly how you envision it. “Can you make my track sound professional/radio-ready?” – Absolutely ✅. With my experience mixing, mastering, and producing for artists worldwide, I ensure every track is polished, balanced, and ready for release.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think music production and mixing are just about pressing buttons or using fancy plugins. In reality, it’s about understanding the artist’s vision, making creative decisions, and shaping emotions through sound. It’s not only technical—it’s deeply artistic. A great mix or production isn’t just clean and loud; it’s what makes a song feel alive and connect with listeners.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: 1. When starting a new project, I like to understand the artist’s vision clearly, so I usually ask: 2. What’s your goal for this song/project? (radio-ready single, demo, EP, etc.) 3. Do you have reference tracks that capture the sound or vibe you’re aiming for? 4. What emotions or message do you want the music to communicate? 5. Are there specific elements you want included (live instruments, trumpet, special effects, etc.)? 6. What’s your timeline and budget so I can plan accordingly? These questions help me deliver not just a technically polished track, but one that truly reflects the artist’s personality and vision.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Take time to choose someone who truly understands your vision. Look beyond the gear or the fancy studio—focus on finding a provider who listens, communicates clearly, and is committed to making your project sound like you. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions, share references, and give feedback along the way. The best results always come from collaboration and trust between the artist and the producer/engineer. My advice: hire someone who treats your music with the same care they would treat their own.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1.Trumpet 🎺 – because it’s my voice and first love. 2. Audio Interface (UAD Apollo or Focusrite Scarlett) – for clean, high-quality recording. 3. Laptop with DAWs (Logic Pro & Pro Tools) – can’t create without my digital workstation. 4. Studio Headphones (Audio-Technica ATH-M50x) – for accurate mixing anywhere. 5. Condenser Microphone (AKG C414 or Shure SM7B) – versatile for vocals and instruments. With just these essentials, I could still record, produce, and create music that inspires—even in the middle of nowhere.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My journey started with a love for music performance, especially the trumpet, which gave me a strong foundation in rhythm, melody, and live sound. Over time, I expanded into music production, mixing, and mastering, working with artists across Nigeria and in more than 30 countries remotely. I’ve been in the industry for over 7 years, building experience not just as a performer but also as a producer and engineer at my studio, Soundcorps Studio. Each step of my career has been about learning, collaborating, and helping artists bring their vision to life with professional, polished sound.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a blend of soulful live instrumentation and modern digital production. I love combining the warmth of organic sounds—especially the trumpet—with the clarity, punch, and polish of today’s mixes. I’d describe it as clean, dynamic, and emotional: every element has its place, every sound has purpose, and the final product is designed to connect with listeners while standing out in quality.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Burna Boy because of the way he blends Afrobeat with global sounds while staying true to his roots. His music has so much energy, emotion, and cultural depth—it would be exciting to add my trumpet and production style to that kind of sound. I’d also be thrilled to collaborate with Jacob Collier for his musical genius and versatility. He pushes boundaries in harmony, rhythm, and arrangement, which aligns with my passion for creativity and innovation in music. Working with either of these artists would be a chance to learn, innovate, and create music that connects with people worldwide.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One of the biggest secrets to a great-sounding track is leaving space. Don’t overload your mix with too many elements fighting for attention. Instead, focus on the core idea—let the vocals or lead instrument shine, and arrange supporting sounds around it. Sometimes, removing one instrument can make the whole track sound bigger, cleaner, and more emotional. Less is often more in production.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work across a variety of genres, but I’m most active in Afrobeat, Gospel, Jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B, and Contemporary Pop. My background as a trumpet player gives me a strong foundation in jazz and live instrumentation, while my work as a producer and engineer allows me to deliver modern, radio-ready sounds in Afrobeat, urban, and inspirational music. I also enjoy cross-genre collaborations, blending organic instruments with digital production to create something fresh and unique.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: 💡 My Strongest Skill My strongest skill is the ability to bring clarity, balance, and emotion into a track through mixing and production. I have an ear for detail—whether it’s polishing vocals, creating space in an arrangement, or adding live trumpet for warmth and character. I’m not just focused on technical perfection; I make sure every song I touch feels alive, dynamic, and true to the artist’s vision.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a blend of musicality, technical expertise, and emotional depth to every project. As a producer, mix & mastering engineer, and trumpet player, I focus on making sure each track not only sounds polished but also connects with listeners on a deeper level. Whether it’s adding a soulful trumpet line, crafting a clean and powerful mix, or shaping the overall production, I aim to highlight the artist’s vision while giving the song a unique, professional edge that stands out. My clients trust me to deliver tracks that are radio-ready, dynamic, and full of life.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When working with clients, I like to keep things clear, collaborative, and efficient: Understanding the Vision – I start by discussing your goals, references, and the sound you want to achieve. Pre-Production – If needed, I help shape arrangements, provide creative input, or record trumpet parts to enhance the track. Production/Recording – Using professional gear and my studio setup, I record, program, or produce elements tailored to your project. Mixing & Mastering – I polish the track, balancing clarity, warmth, and punch to ensure it’s release-ready. Feedback & Revisions – I send you a version for review, welcome your notes, and make adjustments until you’re 100% satisfied. My goal is always to deliver not just a song, but an experience that represents your unique sound at the highest quality.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I draw inspiration from musicians and producers who blend creativity with technical excellence. Legends like Quincy Jones inspire me for his timeless arrangements and ability to bring the best out of artists. Dr. Dre motivates me with his precision in sound design and mixing, while Jacob Collier pushes me to think outside the box musically with his innovation and versatility. On the trumpet side, I’m inspired by greats like Miles Davis and Wynton Marsalis, who remind me of the power of expression through tone and phrasing. These influences keep me grounded in quality while constantly challenging me to evolve and bring fresh energy to every project I work on.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The majority of my work revolves around music production, mixing, and mastering. I specialize in helping artists bring their raw ideas to life—whether that’s turning a demo into a polished track, adding professional trumpet recordings for unique flavor, or ensuring a final mix sounds clean, balanced, and ready for release on any platform.
