Interview with Maisie Bull

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I just released my first single off of the album called "When You're High." I wrote the song and the guitar part and engineered my own vocal recordings.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am currently recording my first full length original album with singles to be release throughout 2021!

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital. The future is now and while analog is great and certainly has a place, denying the possibilities provided by going digital seems like a silly limit to place on oneself.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I will always give you my 100%.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: That I get to do what I love most in the world and help people in the process.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That it's easy lol. Creating music is a magical experience and I'd say the creation aspect is definitely not the hardest part. But the marketing, the promotion, the networking, and all the administrative stuff that goes into it is not always the most fun.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What are you goals for the project at hand? What are your plans for future projects and how do they tie in together? What is one weakness you possess that you look to supplement with another person's strength?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Most people on this website are perfectly qualified to help you regardless of how fancy their credits are. I say look for a profile/provider that you vibe with because if you're going to be working with anyone, making sure you like them will make the whole experience better for everyone involved.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Definitely a piano and an acoustic guitar first and foremost. I suppose the rest of my answer depends on whether or not there is electricity on this island...if yes, my laptop, mic, and interface (and headphones??). If no, my trusty song journal, lucky pen, and a bluetooth speaker that would magically never die (cuz of course I'd have my phone but that doesn't count right??)

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: In my original music I write for myself, my lyrics are incredibly honest. I don't hold back my truth but I try to present it in a way that is relatable. I love creating unique and unexpected melodies that cause listener's ears to perk up when they hear a note that wouldn't expect but still sits perfectly within the track.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: I would love nothing more than to co-write music with Julia Michaels if for no other reason than to pick her brain and learn some of her secrets.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I love pop music so much but I also greatly enjoy working on music with a more singer/songwriter vibe or a folk, R&B, or even a rock feel.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: My vocal abilities are by far my biggest strength but I also feel incredibly confident in my songwriting and piano abilities.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: I bring passion and power to any vocals I deliver. For melodic or lyrical compositions, I try to bring something new and exciting that still feels familiar and comfortable.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: I use Logic as my DAW and I record my vocals on an SM7b, which I have found suits my voice very nicely.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: I grew up loving folk music, particularly the poetic lyrics found in most folk songs. I am now primarily a pop writer inspired by young Adele, Sara Bareilles, and more modern pop artists like Lauv, Sasha Sloan, and Demi Lovato.

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: I'd consider myself most well-versed in my vocal abilities. I can sing just about any genre and deliver a passionate performance. I am also always toplining so I'd say that's very common too.
