Interview with Will Records

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My first album/ep that I did completely on my own. My goal was to finish it in 15 days. That's why it's called 15 Days. I still like to listen to it today because I compose 6 songs that somehow belong together but still sound completely different.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will do everything to give you the perfect musical experience.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: Everything except Marketing and Promotion.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What is your idea/vision?

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Say if you don't like something and listen to his proposed solution.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: Computer with a DAW and a pair of plugins, keyboard, interface, microphones and headphones

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I've been doing this for 12 years and I started with drums when I was 5, then I composed my first songs when I was 8 and now I'm 20.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: You can recognize the main genre but in between there are sounds or song parts that are actually very untypical for the genre.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: 3 easy steps to improve your music skills and develop your own sound 1. Make music you like and don´t follow music rules 2. Listen to all kinds of music 3. Try this out without questioning them

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: Everything, actually. I don't pay much attention to genre either, I let myself be driven by my ideas.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: I can take almost any idea, no matter how stupid it is, and turn it into a good song.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: Most of the time I discover a cool sound while experimenting around, which then automatically leads me to a cool melody.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: All in the Box, very basic, but still try to get a professional sound, which I usually succeed. Most of the time I realize afterwards that you don't need most of the professional equipment. needed. Or I discover a completely new sound by experimenting around.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Chris Lord-Alge as mixing engineer. I am an all listener and soak up music like a vacuum cleaner and when I compose music I often mix 2 or more different styles or combine for example a rap beat with a pop arrangement.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Turn an idea from customers into a song
