Interview with Jaime Suarez
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m proud of the mastering work I’ve done for independent artists who trusted me to shape the final sound of their music. Seeing their excitement when they hear the finished master is one of the best parts of my job.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently mastering several singles for independent artists, mixing content for TV and social media, and working I enjoy balancing music, broadcast and post-production work.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m new to the SoundBetter community, so I haven’t collaborated with other providers here yet. But I’m always open to connecting and recommending great talent as I get to know more creators on the platform.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I use both. Digital gives me precision, flexibility and recall, while analog brings depth, warmth, weight and musicality. My hybrid chain combines the best of both worlds SPL PQ, SPL IRON, SSL Fusion and high-end conversion allowing me to achieve a clean, powerful and emotionally engaging sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to deliver professional, musical and translation-perfect results every time. I’m committed to clear communication, fast turnaround and total attention to detail. Your project becomes my priority, and I won’t stop until you’re 100% satisfied with the final sound.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love helping artists and creators reach the final version of their work the moment when the song feels polished, powerful and emotionally complete. Turning a good mix into a great-sounding master is incredibly satisfying, and I enjoy the connection with clients from all over the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “How long will it take?” I typically deliver within 24–48 hours, depending on the project, and revisions are quick. “Will my track get louder and clearer?” Yes I focus on clarity, impact, tonal balance, and competitive loudness while preserving dynamics. “Can you match a reference?” Absolutely. I use references as a creative guide while keeping your track’s identity intact.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that mastering or audio polishing is just “making it louder.” In reality, it’s a detailed technical and artistic process that involves balancing the spectrum, enhancing clarity, controlling dynamics, improving translation and making sure the music or dialogue feels cohesive on every platform. Great mastering is subtle but transformationalt’s about elevating the emotion and impact, not just increasing volume.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask: • What’s your reference track or target sound? • What’s the emotion or vibe you want the song to convey? • Do you have any specific concerns about your mix? • What format or platform is the final master intended for? These details help me understand the direction and deliver exactly what the client needs.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who listens to your goals, communicates clearly, and delivers consistent results. A great engineer should enhance your vision, not change it. Always check their previous work, equipment, and reviews and make sure they can deliver on time and with the quality your project deserves.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I will choose my Macbook Pro ,SSL FUSION,SSL THE BUS+, Apogee symphony desktop and my VSX Steven slate headphones because I can deliver competitive and high quality masters outside of my studio.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working in audio for over 10 years. My career started in broadcast and post-production, working with major TV networks like Caracol TV, RCN, Canal 1 and WIN Sports. Over the years I expanded into music mastering, hybrid processing, audio restoration and high-end mixing. Today I run JaimeASoundLab, offering professional mastering, mixing and audio post services worldwide.
