Georgina Lloyd-Owen

Session Cellist, Composer

Georgina Lloyd-Owen on SoundBetter

I am a classically trained cellist, who has been playing for over 15 years, and have performed at numerous concert halls across the globe. I have an acoustically treated room where I record high quality cello for other peoples work, as well as my own original scores for film, movement, and video games.

I'm Georgina, and I have been a musician for over 15 years. As a cellist I have worked with renowned musicians such as Yo Yo Ma, performing concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, Roundhouse and the Royal Festival.

I am a composer, most recently writing an original orchestral score for UK-based award-winning ballet company, Ballet Black, which I also performed and produced. I work day-to-day as a sound engineer and producer, so am able to record and mix high quality audio.

I specialise in session work, orchestration, arranging, and original score composition. I also am able to master and produce my own work, and provide high quality recordings and final productions.

I also have experience top-lining in different genres.

Interview with Georgina Lloyd-Owen

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: After I left school, I did an undergraduate degree in Musicology, and have performing in chamber groups, orchestras and solo for my entire life, but didn't come to the more production-based side of music making until I was 21. I think I was lucky enough to be exposed to some incredible orchestral works between the ages of 10 and 18 whislt in the the National Childrens Orchestra, and subsequently the National Youth Orchestra. I'll never forget playing Mahler's 5th Symphony in the Royal Albert Hall. Anyway, I think those experiences shaped me into the composer I am becoming!

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: I tend to write scores with a lot of emotion, and a lot of the time that is because I will be performing the solo cello line, and I'm a (shamelessly) passionate player!

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I currently have access to acoustically treated rooms, and a number of high quality mics. This ranges from tube condensers such as the Avantone CV12, and a vintage circuit Neumann U47 (which is incredibly special!), to ribbon pairs such as the Coles 4038s, and even some lovely pencil condensers - KM184s.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: I am usually brought on to a project to either compose an original score (such as with short film projects of the past), or to record a high quality cello performance.
