Endorse Stuart TurnerInterview with Stuart Turner
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It depends on the sound you are going for. If you want a vintage sound then you can't beat analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To keep working on your song until you are completely happy.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Just to provide as much detail as possible about what they are looking for. Reference tracks always help.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Multi-genre
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Obviously it is not possible, but I would love to have worked with Amy Winehouse
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't rely on post-production. Get a good sound in the room, and then it can only get better!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I have worked on everything from Rock to Hip-Hop. However, if I was to name one genre, I'd say that I have worked on original Rock 'N' Roll music more than any other genre.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say improvisation. I enjoy creating melodic lines over chord progressions. I especially enjoy the challenge of soloing over new/unusual chord progressions.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can bring a fresh perspective and a wide range of influences to the music I am working on.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically, I like to listen to a song several times and really think about what is missing or what I can add to the song. Following this, I would usually record any rhythm parts followed by lead parts/solos.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: This is a difficult question as there are so many. I gain endless inspiration from the Jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Bill Evans and Barney Kessel. Also, I am greatly inspired by the Psychedelic sounds of the 60's and 70's such as The Doors, The Grateful Dead etc. Progressing from this, there are countless players throughout the history of pop and rock that continue to inspire me.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a variety of guitar work. Everything from small riffs/lead parts to full multi-layer arrangements. No job is too big or small!
