Scott Thomson on SoundBetter

Quality Mixing and Mastering, delivered in a timely manner.

My name is Scott Thomson. I'm an audio engineer from Scotland. The creation of music is my passion and I've been fortunate enough to study the subject for several years. My specialities lie in the production of music, and everything involved in the process. I also enjoy playing music and have played in bands for several years.

I offer mixing and mastering services and have worked with independent artists, but also artists signed to labels. I can also play bass, should you need some session work done.

Interview with Scott Thomson

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: So many! My personal favourite bands are Green Day, Alter Bridge. I love how powerful the production is, and the songs really speak to me. I also like some older bands, like Status Quo and Slade. I'm a big fan of Andrew Scheps and Andy Wallace's work.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Digital. Having everything exactly where it was when you left it is massive!

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: That I will give you the very best of what I have, no matter the project. I want you to leave happy!

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Don't sweat the small stuff! It wastes so much time that could be spent making more music. It's vital to know when to let things go.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: A unique perspective and the skills necessary to enhance the quality of your music. Being a musician myself, I understand the intricacies of the writing process but realise the power of a fresh set of ears.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I currently operate out of a converted garage, containing a relatively simple studio setup. I run Pro-Tools and Reaper, working fully in the box.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Usually Indie and Rock, but I have experience working with other genres and enjoy them just as much.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: Mainly the full production process: Recording, Mixing, Mastering.
