Alfredo and the team worked on some tricky episodes of a podcast series. I threw loads of curve balls and they knocked them all out of the park. Rare to find such great workmanship and diligence at a reasonable price. Looking forward to working with them again soon.

Interview with Alfredo Paz

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Producing and arranging a Dark Covers EP (project) with a fantastic singer collaborator. I'm also recording and producing folk album for a fantastic UK based band.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I started about 30 years ago by recording my bands and my own compositions for films. I then worked as an audio engineer for a radio station for two years. After this, I went to University and studied two BA degrees ( Film Making and Recording Arts). This followed by working 3 years as the Chief Sound Engineer in a professional recording studio until it sadly closed down! This forced me to move to the live sound industry, which I have been alternating with my freelancer studio audio engineering career since then. I have done live sound all over the world, and I have worked with many world-renowned artists such as The Black Eyed Peas and José Carreras. Studio-wise, I have recorded and mixed 100's of tracks including orchestral music in both my studio or major recording studios such as Air Studios in London. I have also sound-designed and supervised award winning Films, TV documentaries, and much more.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: Sound Designed and Re-Recorded (this is a term that means mixing in the film world) three features films. Why, am I proud of them? Apart for the thousands of hours of work, there is nothing more rewarding than hearing great feedback, reviews and not to mention to feel the reactions of a live audience when you watch the film back in a cinema. Also, knowing a few film projects were officially selected or awarded in mumerous international film festivals including a Cannes Film Festival selection and a BAFTA short film always put a smile in your face. Music wise, I always love working with one of my long term's client, Ramón Ruiz. His music is so dynamic, complex, expressive, and so well performed that it always a pleasure to mix and master.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Honesty, passion, hard-work and obviously a radio ready song.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Contact me and we will discuss your project prior to the submission of your stems. I'm here to help you achieve your goals.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Work on the arrangement, a good arrangement equals a great mix. Then, listen carefully, and listen again.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Well balanced and spacious radio-ready Mixes and Masters full of life and emotions.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: It depends on the project and requirements. Firstly, I listen to the project a few times to get familiar with it and to try to understand all the parts before touching anything else. I will then compare the client's notes and my initial notes and take it from there.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: 5.1 Surround Studio with high end Blue Sky Audio and Neumann monitoring. Excellent acoustics treatment. I have a combination of analog and digital gear, but, experience, passion and a set of good ears beat everything else.
