Danna J

Remote Writer/Producer/Editor

Danna J on SoundBetter

Creative Chameleon. Meticulous Editor. One-stop shop for podcasters. I have achieved BBC 6Music airtime, Introducing in Kent's Record of the Week and 50k+ streams on personal projects. In the studio, I have worked sessions with Jeff Beck and Passenger. For film, I have recorded/edited audio for Josh Wood Colour and Pixiwoo.

I have worked with a number of signed and unsigned artists. My own writing has earned me support slots with bands like Sports Team and Broken Hands, and interest from notable labels such as Island Records. This and the previously mentioned achievements are a drop in the ocean for some, but I am dedicated to working with talented artists to, hopefully, achieve even bigger and better things. My natural writing instinct sits within an eclectic mix of influences; Tame Impala, Jessie Ware, Leon Bridges and Frank Ocean - but, with references, I can adapt to most styles - particularly when top lining.

As a sound recordist/editor, I worked with Josh Wood Colour and Boots to record and edit the audio for a promotional campaign that they were running, as well as capturing the audio for an interview with Pixiwoo. In the podcasting world, I have worked on the Jack Hopps Podcast. I am very picky with edits/cuts and cross-fades (they call me Darth Fader), so I will be listening to your audio with a keen ear and making sure you get it back meticulously edited.

I will likely ask lots of questions and potentially ask for references - but this is because I want to give you the best possible end result. I am very laid back and easy to talk to, so will work around you and help you get your project to the next level.

Looking forward to working with you!

Interview with Danna J

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Automate/randomise velocity between two snare samples. This helps programmed drums with own samples to fake real timbre and variability in tone.

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: Toplines. Relatable Lyrics. Effects.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: Entire Creative Process: Frank Ocean Production: Rostam Batmanglij Songwriting: The Weeknd

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: I don't know anyone from SoundBetter but I'm hoping to get to know some people so that I can keep learning new tricks. I do know some people who aren't on here that I can recommend where relevant.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Both. The best studio setups are hybrid in my opinion. Outboard and plugins both bring their own strengths sonically and to the performance.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: I am a creative. I approach most aspects of music-making through the eyes of a songwriter. I bring creativity and precision to the process so will make suggestions that, I think, will augment the track.
