Barak Shem-Tov on SoundBetter

The one thing I love more than listening to great music is making great sounding music. That's why I am offering a non-compromising service using high-end analog gear, with free unlimited revisions - guaranteeing 100% satisfaction on every project I work on.

Hi! My name is Barak and I produce, mix, and master music from my studio in Berlin, Germany.
As a guitar and keyboard player for over 15 years, I am first and foremost a musician. I love working on music in various genres - from indie rock to punk, techno, pop, folk, and much more!

After graduating from Music Production and Sound Engineering bachelor studies with first class honours, I founded my production studio - equipped with high-end gear, vintage analog instruments, and of course the best of the latest digital software technologies.

My passion is helping musicians make amazing music come to life.
As I believe that communication is the key to a great collaboration, I am already looking forward to talking with you.
I will be happy to discuss your artistic vision, exchange musical ideas about your songs, and help out with every step in the production, on the way from a composition to a finished record.

Please feel free to contact me for any question or special request. I’m looking forward to working with you!

Barak has such a keen ear. he helped me figure out my band's sound so well, we now have a better idea of how we want to sound in the future (production wise as well as live) so in a way you could say that he forecasted our sound! many many thanks to him and i will definitely come back for more work in the future.
He also had patience with special requests and was up to getting things down to the detail. I highly recommend him for a decent mix and mastering job. a true talent right here

The Persona Audio team has been fully supportive throughout the whole process. Barak is a hardworking and caring producer. He’s been on top of every challenge in the making of this record. A bona fined 'mixhead'; he'd never said anything was perfect, but wouldn't stop until we reached genuine contentment. Dan came in the picture when we started recording the synthesizers, and in the mastering later on. Having seen Barak and him debate on sound and mixing, taught me about the importance of scrutinity in music production. And girl, they were four-eyes on it!

I worked with Barak on my single "Big Street", in his studio in Funkhaus. I enjoyed every bit of it! Barak managed to capture my sound very well, also he applied his own creative skills in terms of synth-patterns laid on my singer-songwriter sound. It all turned out great and motivated me, to become a better producer myself. I'm definitely up for recording with Barak again!

I was lucky to find Barak's mixing and mastering skills. After trying with other engineers, I couldn't get four masters and the stems for a mix and a master as I needed them. The results and delay were unpleasant. Finally, I contacted Barak. We got to chat about my work and I felt heard and understood to the point of realizing he was enthusiastically committed. The masters plus the mix were delivered a week after, sounding already amazing. We had one short review, and he adjusted everything and delivered the new versions in a day or two. I'm so very happy with the way this EP sounds now.

Barak is hands down the best sound engineer our 9-piece band has ever worked with to date!!! He offers great equipment (I recently sang in the same mic Mic Jager used 😂), and is the most diligent mixing and mastering engineer. Even when he sends us results we’re already happy with, he goes back and send us an updated version that blows our mind even more. Listen to LOVE ROOM by The Hidden Keys to hear what I’m talking about. We’re recording our next album with him at the moment, and it’s gonna be our best album so far. A great person to work with. Trained. Professional. Over the top quality.

Interview with Barak Shem-Tov

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Each has its advantages and disadvantages - analog gear does have a certain quality that digital technology simply can not replicate. On the other hand, some digital technology has powerful capabilities far beyond analog's. At the end of the day, it is just tools, and the real challenge is knowing when and where to use which.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Making musical ideas come to life into a finished production. Sometimes collaborations between the musician and the producer yields results neither of them could expect or imagine!

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: Located in Berlin, Germany, my studio serves me for production, mixing, and mastering work. The 26m² room is acoustically treated and fitted with PMC monitoring system. Apart from a fantastic and inspiring vibe, it features a selection of high-end, vintage and modern hardware gear including synthesizers, drum machines, amps, compressors, rare effect boxes and much more.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Growing up with a diverse musical background, there are so many music professionals who inspired who I am as a producer and a human! To name a few: Lou Reed, Nigel Godrich, Kanye West, Blawan, Steve Albini.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: There are usually two directions - either a client asks me to mix and/or master an already recorded project, or they present me a musical idea which we develop together into a produced, finished product. I am happy to step in and assist in any step of the production process; as a musician, producer, engineer, or sometimes all three!

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Send a message, try to chat and get to know the person first to see if you click personally and musically! We are all humans, and each professional has something different he could bring to your project. That's why it is so important to find the right guy for the job - the person who understands the music and whats behind it!

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Adjust parameters with your eyes closed! It's incredible how much our vision alters what we 'hear'.
