Hey there, my name is Philipp Höfling and I'm a professional drummer and producer from Germany. I currently play in the bands Asinis (Metal) and VAN:tOM:S (Industrial Rock). I offer smashing drum tracks for your productions. My focus is on Rock/Metal/Pop/Funk, but I'm absolutely open to other genres. Let's talk about your project and get in touch!
Drums and audio productions are my absolute passion. I was able to record and produce almost all my bands, in which I played so far. I have continued to develop this passion, so that today I can look back on almost 20 years of experience in both areas. Out of this dedication and the will to keep creating interesting recordings, my appearance on Soundbetter was created. I can't boast of gold nominations, but I do what I do out of absolute passion and at eye level with my fellows. At the moment I offer the following services:
DRUM COMPOSITION
I offer to work out the drum parts for your arrangement. If you already have concrete ideas, please let me know.
ACOUSTIC DRUM RECORDING AND EDITING
I will record acoustic drum parts for you. This always includes a complete editing of the tracks (quantization, clean-ups...). If you have additional wishes, please let me know (e.g. creation of midi tracks for sample layering or dynamic adjustments).
E-DRUM RECORDING AND EDITING
Alternatively, I offer the recording on my e-drum. Here my focus is on absolutely realistic dynamics (unless you wish otherwise).
Check out my demo track to hear what's possible. You can find an overview of my equipment under "Gear Highlights". If you have any further questions about the process or what I need from you, check out my interview or just contact me. I am looking forward to your request!
Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.
Interview with Phil (Majora Productions)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What project am I involved with and what are you working on? What sound do you want to achieve (modern, dynamic, open, dry...)? Are there already concrete ideas or do you need my creativity? Do you have reference tracks / programmed drums? Do you have any additional requests (additional tracks / midi tracks / should I use samples from my libraries)? What would you like to have delivered?
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: The focus of my previous productions was primarily in the area of Modern Metal / Punk / Rock / Pop. But I am absolutely open to any genre or fusion projects.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I can't adorn myself with grammy or gold nominations, but I do have what I consider to be the most important prerequisites for my job and convincing results: absolute passion for what I do, constant development and improvement, working at eye level with my fellows. These principles are very important to me and enable me to deal intensively with my clients in order to create individual and extraordinary results. In doing so, I always have fun and enjoy making new valuable contacts and friendships.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That you create culture together for our sometimes cold world, to amaze in the short term or to inspire in the long term.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: It is best to simply give as much information as possible. What do you imagine? What are your wishes and expectations? What would you like to have delivered? And of course, which services would you like to have in addition because you don't want to take them on yourself?
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I will work out a customized package with you according to your requirements and drafts/reference tracks. As soon as all questions are clarified on both sides I start the implementation and send you a demo from my side. When you are completely satisfied, you get all the data and tracks you want.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide all services around the production and editing process: drum composition, recording, consolidation, clean-up, quantization, generation of midi tracks (if you wish), dynamic adjustments (if you wish), rendering midi drums with samples from my library (if you wish).
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I totally like the old recordings of Rick Rubin, these have a lot of energy but are still organic. As for drummers, I'm inspired by so many musicians from so many different genres that I couldn't even list them all here.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record my acoustic drums through Focusrite Scarlett / OctoPre preamps / interfaces. My electric drum is a conversion set with custom built-in electronics. The midi data is recorded via multiple Roland TMC-6 drum modules.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Music has accompanied me my whole life. I have been playing drums since my early childhood. I learned my skills classically in the orchestra and later I started with the piano. Only a few years later I started to acquire profound knowledge in the field of audio production. So I was able to record and produce almost all my bands, in which I played so far. I have continued to develop this passion, so that today I can look back on almost 20 years of experience in both areas. In the meantime I have been on the road in over 7 lineups / bands and have produced several EP's, singles, albums.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Focus on sound and what you hear, not on equipment.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: groovy, punchy, on point
