Interview with Robbie Rivera

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be careful how you spend your money on music production. You need a lot of patience to make it in the music business and you need to be original. Many artists just copy the flavor on the month which it is a strategy that can work but better to take that flavor to the next level.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is better.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Any genre can be remixed into dance music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Well I have been doing this for a long time and I am still very active in the EDM world. I release music monthly and tour all the time. So I know what your song needs to get played by club and radio djs for that extra promotion or to get playlisted on dance music lists. I am easy going and work fast.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start a new session, add the vocals and then the drums. I adjust any tempo to meet the BPM for EDM tracks if needed. I then work on the chords myself or if I need assistance my musician adds his touch until I am happy with it. Eventually I add the bass, stabs, strings etc. Then I mix the track and I send a test mix to get approval. After this I get it mastered. I can do this in less than 5 days. I have been remixing and producing music for almost 30 years.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a small room in my home in Georgia and I have a new iMac computer with two KRK monitors and a pair of Sennheiser studio headphones. I use Logic Pro to produce music and also use Nexus software and other sound plugins. I use also the ones that come with Logic. I do not like to have way too many plugins as it just confuses me. I am simple. I put my effort on being creative with what I have. It's what I learned when I studied music production and engineering. Everything I create for you will be original.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I grew up in Puerto Rico listening to U2, Nirvana, Metallica but also new wave bands like Depeche Mode, Erasure, New Order and also latin and reggae. I get inspired by other producers and artists specially if they have a lot of energy in their music while being a simple production. Many tunes can be over produced.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I love when an artist sends me their acapella and I compose new music to it in my style. Any genre can be remixed into electronic dance music. It so much fun and as you distribute your new version you will gain many new listeners with my remix, specially if you tag my name with yours on Spotify.
