It was a joy to work with this guy, very talented and clear and precise in his feedback too. He allowed me to do my job in a directed way that made it very straight forward.
Interview with Simran Bhatia
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Among like a hundred songs, I'm currently finalizing My EP, under my artist name of Dream Club.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: David Kyle Payne. Fantastic producer and musician.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog is fantastic and I always throw a Juno or DX7 on my production at the studio, however now that I have samples to all of the synths I use, I just do everything digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will do my best to fulfill your requests and make a song that will please not only you but your audience.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure the provider you're going for is YOUR sound or is capable of tailoring a song to your sound. At the end of the day, it should sound like your song, not like every other song the provider you're reaching out to has made.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Warm Audio mic, some NS10s, My guitar, A laptop, and to make it easy, an apollo interface. (Or maybe a power source?)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My original career path was to become an audio engineer but that was due to my lack of faith in my production and songwriting. However, over the past 3-4 years I've grown tremendously in that field and am now looking to release my debut EP this year! At this point I am confident in my abilities to not only help myself, but others.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: It's difficult to describe but I like to think I am a nostalgia-heavy contemporary pop artist with melancholic instrumentals. My entire musical aesthetic stems from dreams, if you couldn't tell by my artist name!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Matty Healy of the 1975. That would be a dream come true.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If a sound or track needs too many plug-ins, maybe the original sound just wasn't good enough! Most of the time, less is better.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on alternative, indie-pop, and electro-pop music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Probably the ability to really dive into a song and find the proper meaning/feeling to portray to an audience. I love to write simple yet compelling lyrics that are easy to listen to, that sit on top of very deep production.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a fun and contemporary sound to my production. It sounds indie enough while holding a commercial standard.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically like to create songs from scratch, but I also love to bring clients' demos to life. I can handle whatever you need!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: In all honestly, I run a very budget setup. My priciest equipment are some Dynaudio studio monitors. I also work entirely in the box. However, I can assure you this does not restrict me from bringing any song to life, and you won't be able to tell the difference in my production otherwise!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am heavily inspired by artists such as The 1975, Kim Petras, Rina Sawayama, and The Strokes.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I write songs, write lyrics, and produce!
