Label release: "Sydney's Song" by Michael Calfan on Warner Chappell Music - over 4 million streams on Spotify, #2 on UK Music Week's UK Cool Cuts club chart & #6 on Upfront Club chart. I specialize in top-line writing for pop and electronic music and professional vocal performance. Count on me for a modern, yet timeless sound in your music!
Hello! I have over 13 years of classical training as a vocalist, but what really helps to create a unique sound in my work is my additional years of experience behind the scenes as lead composer for two feature-length films and as co-producer of multiple projects and bands. I have a great understanding of music, especially the depth of feeling that needs to be cultivated within each piece, whether it be through vocals, lyrics, or general arrangement. I specialize in vocals and songwriting and have written and/or sung pieces ranging from house to R&B, rock, and beyond. I also produced the music for most of the songs on my reel. My range of services includes:
- Original melody and/or lyrics for your hook or entire piece
- Vocal performance for your already-written piece
- Helping to finish the writing for a song you've already started
- Vocal production - includes comping, mixing, and direction
Each song is different and you can expect me to treat your piece with the care and unique approach necessary to take it to the next level. Looking forward to working with you!

Sydney is an amazing singer & songwriter. She is very professional, talented, nice, and great at communicating. She made my first experience using SoundBetter an incredible one! I am lucky to have her voice in my song. I can’t wait to work with her again.
Sydney is a dream to work with! She did a feature on one of my songs, did a fantastic job singing lead vocals, wrote her own words and did beautiful harmonies. Also she provided me with a state of the art recording. I am certainly going to book her again and would recommend her to anyone!
I knew Sidney Jane from Disclosure's Twitch And Discord Community. She is a very talented Singer / Songwriter / Music Producer. You will get the best quality when working with her.
Through working with Sydney Jane on multiple projects over the years, I've come to truly appreciate and admire her expertise and powerful musicianship. She's an absolute joy to work with and I've personally experienced on numerous occasions just how adeptly she is able to bring out the best in me as a songwriter and vocalist and any other musicians or producers involved. She knows 100% how to SERVE the music. Work with her and you won't be disappointed. Your music will, by default, be elevated to another level.
Interview with Sydney Jane
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Recently I was featured on a track by a german artist that was co-written by me and Guy Lawrence (of Disclosure) and features Aaron Sterling on drums. It's already getting a great deal of attention in the industry and is going to be released in the near future.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process is very relaxed and open. I usually hear melodies on tracks right away, and the words come along afterwards. I know I'm heading in the right direction musically when I can't help but dance a little to whatever idea is playing around in my head. I truly believe that if you feel something great in music, your body reacts, so it's important to have fun!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from my own studio in L.A. using Logic Pro X and a Shure SM7B for vocals using a Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter going into a MOTU M2 interface.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Practice enough so you can play or sing freely without hesitation. If you're recording someone, pay attention to every detail while they're recording.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a lively, intense energy, even on slower songs. I love catchy, melodic vocals that are easy to listen to and fun to sing for the everyday person, so I try to always stay grounded in songs. I want people to keep singing what they've heard after just one listen, I think that's a great sign of a good song.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm a singer first, so my favorite vocal inspirations are Robert Plant, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Prince, Tamia, Chet Baker, Sampha, and all of those unnamed singers who absolutely kill EDM pop songs and turn them into anthems.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work that I do for clients is top-line writing and singing. I love those final stages of song production, when a voice and lyrics are introduced to really bring everything together!
