Interview with Online-Audio Recording Service
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: We have worked on so many projects over the years but developing Above & Beyond was an interesting time.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: We’re currently working with Da-Ran on his second album and we’re also producing a full set of backing tracks for Synthian a synth rock outfit.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Ourselves ;-)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I don’t believe we’ve evolved into digital enough (warmth wise) to leave behind the analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: The price quoted is the price you will pay.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Satisfied customers.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you change the key of a song? The simple answer is yes. Do your backing tracks fade out? The simple answer is no.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That we create backing tracks from scratch. Unfortunately to create a backing track from scratch would require a few musicians and that doesn’t come cheap. We have a huge catalog of HD quality backing track stems (individually recorded instruments) that we use to produce your bespoke tracks.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: We just like to find out what their personal requirements are, no difficult questions.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Book early.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: iMac Mixing Desk Guitar Synth A good waterproof cover
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Started in a band just before leaving school that supported many top bands in concert. From there continued to write, record and produce for myself and other artists leading me to build my own studio. Today we help many other musicians find the right backing tracks (if required), demo’s or ready to release songs. We also produce all things audio including Voice-Reels, Show-Reels, Audio Restoration and much more.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Professional sound.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Pal Waaktaar
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Give the client a half decent mix early on to gain their view on a given track. Only then spend time polishing it off.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: We work on all sorts of genres when it comes to creating backing tracks but when it comes to original compositions, our strengths are in the Pop and Rock genre.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: We produce your tracks exactly to your requirements.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Experience, expertise, knowledge, understanding, a good ear and professional equipment.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After your initial contact with Phonic-Media, you will be booked into the studio. A link will be sent for you to login and be greeted by our sound engineer. He will consult with you briefly to understand your requirements and then you will both set to work on your track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: We have a professional studio in Cheshire, UK called Phonic-Studio’s and the studio was built for professional sound engineers only, I.e, it’s not a public studio. The studio is used to accommodate remote Mixing & Mastering for those who prefer to work online. You can simply login to the studio and work on your tunes with our in house sound engineer. Together you can design, mix & master your bespoke tracks. We have a vast array of studio equipment to create your perfect track and bring it to a broadcast standard ready for you to share with the world.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Pal Waaktaar inspires me as his song writing is outstanding and his way of producing is always current.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Our most requested service is for Mixing & Mastering and 60% of that is for backing track production.
