Interview with Tiffany Monique
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I'm always interested to know the clients' objective; "what is your vision for this song?" I believe know why the songwriter or producer made the song, and how they see its life materializing is vital in creating an intentional vocal.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I typically sing R&B, Pop, Soul and Gospel music. I also have experience with classical, country, funk, disco, house and cinematic music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is the flexibility of my voice and skill set. I have experience in several genres of music, and use that experience as a reference in my delivery. I also sing in soprano, alto and tenor ranges, so it provides me with a broad playground a vocalist and with harmonies and arrangements. I love having fun with parts of my voice!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically reference my vocals on my laptop before recording professionally. This allows me to be as familiar as possible with the song first, so I can deliver believably as the subject of the song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring power, emotion and life to a song. While words always matter and runs show skill, I believe the way a song is delivered determines its full impact on the listener. I received one of my most flattering compliments from the "Queen" Beyonce: "Tiffany’s voice has effortless strength, sass, seduction, and heart with a tone that puts you at ease..."
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I am the co-owner of a full service recording studio in New York. The studio has full vocal and live recording, mixing and mastering operations. We primarily use MOTU Digital Performer for our DAW, as well as Logix X, Studio One 3 and ProTools.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Vocalists like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, The Clark Sisters, Faith Evans and other powerhouse vocalists inspire my journey. I'm also inspired by the productions of Babyface, Quincy Jones, D. Mile, Raphael Saadiq, PJ Morton and more.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide high-quality, studio reference vocals for songwriters, artists, and arrangers. I also provide vocal arrangement and songwriting services.
