Interview with Big Noise Recording Studios
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. They both have their advantages, so why not use them.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Have you got autotune?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It's not work! (no really, it is...but it is great fun work)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Learnt by performing live and in studios. Opened Big Noise Studios in 1995 after working at several studios and for several bands on a freelance basis.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whatever is needed. Sometimes, it's just being able to tell a guitar is out of tune, sometimes it's a full blown production job.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: With the Raindirk Symphony LN2, and beacuse it has 120+ usable inputs at once, it's a really flexible setup here with 2 live rooms, vocal booth and control room and that we can switch from analogue to digital in the session and tie both in together really quickly. We have good line of sight between players and with good isolation between instruments too, so you can track a whole band live with a screaming Hammond, rockin guitar and banging drums, with virtually zero bleed (if thats what you want).
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Tracking, editing and mixing and production
