    Really fun to work with!
She’s such a talent! And would do anything to make a perfect project.

Interview with Valerie

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm extremely proud of a few jingles that I've written, one in particular for a product that's been featured on NPR, and is on shelves in Walgreens, and on Amazon!

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I don't know anyone personally on sound better, but I do like to tell people that Billy Eilish is my coworker, as I do see there are many musicians that have worked on her projects... so details details right?

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: digital love, daft punk of course

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: Vocals and lyrics for a pop song!!!!!!

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise I am going to put my whole heart into every project I work on. I really, truly, care.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: It's a real life, dream come true. It doesn't even feel real. Its a fairy tale to get to play music for a living... WOW.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: "Is this something you feel like you can vibe with".. I will answer you honestly and most of the time its a big yes because I can vibe with just about anything

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I do it commando

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you have a song in mind you would like this project to reference.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Send me a message. We might be a great fit, and the most important part of any service is a good consultation. Let's talk and see if we mesh well and can collaborate on something awesome together.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: LOL a karaoke machine (the kind that comes with a mic), my bass, one of those cool little bass amps they make out of altoid tins, an accordion (why not) and some sort of drum.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Does the first song I wrote at 5 count? It was called green eyes, and it was about the family cat. Is it any coincidence that Coldplay has a hit named green eyes? I think not.... I have been playing and singing for fun and my self and with friends my whole life, writing love songs and sad songs to get me through the days. It was not until 2020 at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic that with the help of the people closest to me I've been diving in to this career path of selling my skills. I hope I can do it forever. <3

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: "My fashion sense is a little wack, and my friends are just as cool as me" "4 am, we ran a miracle mile, were flat broke, by hey we do it in STYLE" ummm

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Grimes so I can get closer to a free Tesla

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Sure I can.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Alt pop

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Hmmm. That is so tough. Jeez. I'm constantly trying to up my game in all areas, for right now, I would say getting a good rough draft of a song together. I can create the initial thing pretty quickly and sufficiently. It takes more patience and Time for me to perfect everything, make sure every part of the song is at an A+

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Energy, love, depression, dance vibes, the feeling you get when you bite into a warm chocolate chip cookie. My music has been known to make folks cry, but that's a good thing righttttttt?

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I like to break everything down. Spend a few hours on one thing, say writing lyrics, break for coffee and an episode of New girl, and then go lay down a rough draft of vocals. Take a nap, and then hone in on warming up my pipes and laying down something worth listening too. Call a couple of friends, and then come back and listen to what we're working with, and see what changes may need to be made.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Home studio, DAW = A pink Mac, Tc Helicon vocal pedal, Focusrite preamp, Sterling mic, Sterling bass (seafoam green for optimum mermaid status), key station 49es m audio, a fuzzy pen from dollar general, a couple of candles, a few cats, and some maracas.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I love Gregg Alexander, of the New radicals, who won a grammy for his album "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed too" (talk about life changing music right there) and then has spent the rest of his career curating songs for pop stars such as Adam Lavine, for example, Gregg wrote "stars" made famous by Adam Lavine. Kesha, what can I say the girl can write, sing, and perform. People used to call me Kesha in high school, that is a compliment I will repeat in my head forever and take to the grave. Drake, don't hate, those raps hit me where it hurts. Taylor Swift, Swifty for life y'all <3 Kacey Musgraves, I knew Kacey Musgraves before YOU knew Kacey Musgraves. Kacey for president <3 Phoenix, French pop band most famous for litzomania, "like a riot like a riot oh! Not easily offended, not hard to let it goooo, from the mass to the masses" Daft punk, seriously don't even get me started i'm already screaming.. *da funk* *harder better* *technologic* *digital love* *get lucky* Lights, Canadian pop star, you might have heard her hits playing in your local Schnucks. I would just like to say I copied her tattoos, and before she legally changed her name to "lights" her given name was Valerie... Which, just so happens to be my name <3 Tom Petty, my only goal in life is to be in a Tom Petty cover band Worth mentioning from being raised by a christian musician Relient K, Nicole C mullen, Jump 5, ZoeGirl, Mandisa, TobyMac, 6pence none the richer

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I most commonly help clients with writing a vocal melody and providing lyrics for a song they have started. I also get a fair amount of work writing jingles, which I love <3 Lastly, providing vocals for a song a client has written in full.
