Interview with Chris Kahn
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Radiohead. They have so many great albums.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Whatever makes sense to the project. I tend to mix in digital and commit analog processing of effects/etc.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always work towards making the art you want to make. It's not my art. It's yours and I want to help you get there.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What you are looking to create? Who are your influences and what inspires you? What is your timeline to finish a project?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Macbook Pro, Apogee Symphony, Great Speakers, A Microphone, and a Fender Strat.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: All types.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whatever you need me to. I'm mainly an engineer, but can help with writing if it's helpful to whatever you are trying to do.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process is adaptable. I do whatever is needed for the project in the most efficient way possible.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: A fairly complete mixing, overdub, and writing setup. Tons of instruments setup at all times. For bigger things like drums and strings I either get someone to drums in a commercial studio or can setup remote sessions remotely for that.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Radiohead, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Phoebe Bridgers, Lady Gaga, K Flay among so many others. A good song is a good song!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Tracking, Mixing, Editing (timing/tuning), and Mastering.
