Interview with Pernelle.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: PAON. The song on my profile is the title track of my first original EP with my band PAON, distributed by Scarlet Moon Records. This project is a duet with virtuoso composer Lemm and we are crafting a cosmic jazz project together. I am the founder, creative director, singer, lyricist, flutist and producer.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on a really extraordinary collaboration for a 15 minutes song about grief and love. This is a very personal yet ambitious project bringing incredible artists together such as Belzifer, Kurokotei, Emi Evans (NieR singer) and Y-mir (Blackshard creative director).
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I highly recommend my fellow friend and composer Belzifer. His work is always so precious and dark. He gives a piece of himself in all his compositions and it's always been a wonderful experience to work with him.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My father was a jazz pianist and composer. I had a music school at home since I was born. Musically, I started writing music for other small artists and myself 13 years ago. I ended up professionally entering the video game and film music world 4 years ago.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Many legends such as Herbie Hancock, Valeriy Stepanov, Shiro Sagisu, Naoshi Mizuta, Willow Smith, Björk and Veronica Swift among many others. These artists made me who I am today. My dream is to create an art world where our souls can melt.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I am mostly requested to sing jazz (my main style), opera, ethereal/ethnic, rock and pop music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am a vocal chameleon and I can easily adapt to any genre while experimenting in my own style, allowing me to give an authentic wave of vocality to your music world.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Real emotions and groove.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For vocal work, I first record a small demo on the client's song to fit the direction in the best way possible. Then, I do a final recording and I like to add my own ideas by sending different versions or more harmony layers for example.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mainly do remote vocal recordings for songs of all genres in medias like video games and films.
