Jack Croft on SoundBetter

Hi, I'm a professional session guitarist and bassist. I've worked with members of IDLES and Hawkwind, and I have a degree in Professional Musicianship and Songwriting. My original music has been featured in Clash Magazine, DIY Magazine and has had UK airplay on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 by legendary DJs Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson.

I specialise in Rock, Blues, Pop and Funk, taking influence from artists such as Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and The Smashing Pumpkins. I'm well-versed in music theory and my diverse experience with artists from various genres, ranging from Hip-Hop and Folk to Heavy Metal, allows me to fit in with any style of music that's thrown at me.

When you work with me you'll receive the guitar stems fully edited and ready to place into your project! If you're not sure what your song needs I'll be happy to contribute a range of ideas coming from years of experience. I'm easy to work with and I take pride in great communication with clients to get on the same wavelength and turn their vision into reality!

I started my career at 15, playing gigs and studio sessions with bands across the UK, and I was soon asked to played guitar on two records by Julian Crimmins (Hawkwind). At 18 I enrolled at The British and Irish Modern Music (BIMM) Institute, graduating with a degree in Professional Musicianship and Songwriting. It was here I formed my band INDIGOS, gaining a reputation in the Bristol scene following notable support slots with Cherry Glazerr, Stonefield, Acid Mothers Temple and landing slots at Dot to Dot festival and Boardmasters festival. We were signed to London record label Club AC30 and have since released our debut EP, which was co-produced by Lee Kiernan of UK punk band IDLES.

Jack’s guitar work really elevated my song. I could not be happier or more impressed with his work. He served the song beautifully and did not overplay. I made some changes to the song and he had no issues tweaking his guitar part to fit the new version. Just a great guy all around! He also finished his part quickly and responded on time to my questions. I scoured soundbetter and settled on Jack and trust me when I say he is a diamond in the rough. You really cannot go wrong!

Interview with Jack Croft

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: Full guitar arrangement and recording, or just single riffs.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A great Radiohead influenced Alt Rock track, playing lead guitar Jonny Greenwood style!

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I take care to listen several times before approaching the track, using my years of studio experience to figure out what it needs and adding tasteful parts. I play for the song, not just over it! I'll also offer any advice or arrangement ideas I may think of, which could help you find the missing element to a song.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I'll send you a rough version of how I imagine the guitar parts, then get feedback and adjust accordingly. Then, when the client is 100% happy with the parts, I'll record them professionally through my best gear.
