Second job with Jamila went just as well as the first. Gave me exactly what I was looking for. Five stars.
Another positive experience working with Jamila. Punctual, patient, and super vocals.
Jamila performed a demo vocal for my song. Her vocal style is classy and sophisticated. I was also impressed by her sense of customer service as she went over and above. I look forward to working with her again!

If you need a professional singer with a beautiful, warm and versatile voice, look no further. Fast, patient and reliable. She will add a classy touch to your project. I was very impressed with the quality of the stems. Looking forward to work with her again.
Jamila kept me on my toes throughout my whole project! Her ideas for harmonies are endless and amazing. Give her a listening ear because she will take your song to 7th heaven. Thank you Jamila.
I recently hired Jamila Ford to sing backing vocals on a popular Stevie Wonder tune. I had her record several stems of various harmony lines. She came to the session on time and 100% prepared, yet also went above and beyond what I could have ever hoped for. She replicated the true sound of the original vocals on the track. Fine tuned and with finesse. She was so spot on that her tracks served as a guide for my other vocalist. Her confident, professional demeanor and ability to take direction is a plus. My engineer was thrilled as we played back the tracks "dry" and couldn't believe our ears.
Jamila brought incredible creativity & musicality to the music I sent her way. Not only was it returned to me in a timely fashion, it far exceeded what I had hoped for and raised the project to another level. I would not hesitate to recommend her.
Interview with Jamila Ford
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog! You can't beat the warmth.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to work with you in such a friendly, professional, and collaborative way that all of your expectations will be exceeded.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want most for this project? Are there examples of a few singers that you would like emulated on this project? What song is the key in? What are some of the themes you want expressed in the song I'm top lining? What's the turn around time for this song? I also ask about bit rate, resolution, tempo, key, if there are guide tracks available. I get as many details as possible, which makes turnaround time that much faster. :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've always worked as a professional singer. I've been at this for 20 years.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Preparation is a big deal! I always ask for lots of information before we get started. All of the details make all the work flow so much smoother, faster, and more efficient.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on pop, r&b/soul, house, or jazz.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is delivering a strong vocal performance that conveys the story the song is trying to tell.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Great energy, vibrant story telling, and a deep understanding of the lyrics to tell the story the way it's meant to be told.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to speak with the composer to get an idea of the song direction and feel. Samples of singers are great for getting a feel and direction for the song. I like to start with a few rough takes to make sure we're going in the right direction and on the same page before we put anything in stone. I always want to make sure my clients come away with a project they're happy with.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My taste is varied. I was a huge fan of Amy Winehouse's vocals and songwriting. I am also a huge fan of Billie Eilish, Glen Hansard, Mariah Carey, Dua Lipa, and Bonnie Raitt. All very different artists that have inspired me in one way or another.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do is recording lead and background vocal arrangements for my clients.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have several mics including a Pearlman, an AKG C214, and an audio-technica AT2035. I have a Focusrite Scarlette 2i4, and I record in a Studio one DAW.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on my own records. I'm learning to produce and get my songs out of my voice memos and into the world! I'm also learning how to roller skate!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the freedom to create and collaborate.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Strong lyrics are the best material for a powerful performance. I also think it's a good idea to have a few references of what you're going for vocally when you're hiring a singer.
