Interview with GSG
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: HZ Music DAO
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I am just now starting to branch out and offer my talent to others. Over the years, I have been focused on building myself up and growing my skills as a producer and recording artist so that I would be able to one day offer others my service and deliver my own unique style
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Who are some of your key influences? What type of music do you want to be performing? Do you have any reference songs? Who are some of your favorite artists?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: You will need to be patient and very descriptive of what you are requesting, producers and artists have their own individual sounds and generally have established a working process, there is no one size fits all method to making a song. Also, try to have ideas that are different from what's already being done to separate yourself from everyone else.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I began producing in 2011 as a teen, I was always singing in my childhood and began writing my own songs in high school. After a few years I began performing and producing while attending college. I was initially a part of a group but became a solo artist due to creative differences, I always had a bigger vision for my sound. I wanted to be more than just a rap artist and continued to develop songs across various genres. I have been doing music for a decade now and I am working to grow a more passionate fan base because I am a hardworking and dedicated artist/producer. I have networked with a lot of people within the music industry both independent and at major labels like UMG, Warner, Sony, etc.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: GOAT
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make what sounds good to you and don't focus too much on trends.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am well rounded but I believe I am best at producing, writing and performing.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My mixtape ALIVE! is so special to me, I feel it is my most complete display of my talent. It has such a broad array of sounds and textures.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I am not sure if anyone else I've worked with is using Soundbetter, I've brought it up a few times to previous collaborators .
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because it's the 2020's. I fell in love with DAW's when I was a teen, but I am open to producing with analog in the future and I have experimented with it.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to always give my very best to any song or project I am working on.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like creating and the feeling of being inspired by the creativity. It's awesome to be able to experience what I am doing in the moment and then also being able to refer back to it, having the ability to create my own soundtrack to my life is amazing.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A lot of people seem to think I just write and perform and make beats, when I can actually do the job of an entire production staff and also carry out the business aspect behind the music as well.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I wouldn't need gear on a desert island, I would be focusing too much on survival and it's not likely there would be a source of electricity to record so most gear would effectively be useless, except for acoustic instruments so I would only like a guitar and maybe a piano.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I have always wanted to work with Kanye West, I feel like he and I are like Kobe Bryant & Michael Jordan. I drew a lot of inspiration from his work over the years and I feel like we are both similar in our ability to push the envelope and consistently evolve.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip Hop / Rap, R&B, Electronic, Pop, Classical
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can produce and make beats of all sorts and also deliver high quality lyrical performance, songwriting, and vocals. I am one of the most versatile producer and recording artist you will ever discover.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When creating a song, I always like to come up with the concept of the project in it's entirety first and the sonic influences and direction of the project to have an idea of the flow of each song and how it all relates to the artist and the vision for each element. I compose the beat and write to it at the same time to dedicate each part of the song to each other, for the purpose of making everything complementary and organized.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I would be arranging for any future collaborators to work with me within a professional, state of the art setting located in the SF Bay Area. My home recording set up includes all of the common pieces of a home recording set up, including keyboards, monitors, drum pads, top line microphones, interfaces, etc.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My main influences on my sound have been Kanye West, Jay Z, Drake, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Big Sean, and contemporaries of these artists within Hip Hop / Rap and R&B.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I offer the full package of an executive producer, writer, and performer. I can produce the track, write the song entirely and everything else in between that most people need a team of 10-20 people for.
