Interview with Phil Steuer
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Joshua Wickman of Dreadcore Productions mastered a project I produced, recorded, and mixed. He did an awesome job and is a talented producer/engineer as well.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I'm passionate about bringing productions to the next level. Whether it be delivering a great mix, bass or guitar track, or simply providing direction towards the creative process.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you looking for in someone like me? What are your expectations if any? What sound are you going for? Do you have a preferred process that you're comfortable with?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a musician aiming for the 'rock star' path. A couple of years into performing with bands I feel in love with the studio and eventually found a passion in mixing. Today, I still perform in bands as well as record as a session musician, engineer, and mixer!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Having a conversation with the artist or producer is first and foremost. I feel that this is the most important part of the entire process as it sets the tone and direction of what I do to deliver what they're looking for
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, metal, pop, folk, and rap are genres that I am experienced in.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Steuer Audio & Media Productions works out of The Sound Shop Studio in Macomb, Michigan. A 3,000 sq. ft. facility with a comfortable environment for clients.
