Interview with Gordini

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: Large, wide, exciting, emotional, and powerful... I always try to clearly enhance the story being told while keeping the mix loud, clear, and without bad distortion.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: I love working with new artists that push the bounds of their music via genre-blending and using instruments that wouldn't typically be there like 90's punk guitars in an urban dance song.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Less is more. Instead of continuously tracking a ton of parts, try to find minimum elements that give you that infectious head-bobbing yes feeling.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Rock, Pop, Indie, R&B, EDM.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Coming from the world of analog tape machines, and SSL's/ Neve consoles, I've spent the last 20 years crafting my style to delivering powerful, exciting, and emotionally engaging mixes.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: My strongest skill is embellishing the things that make your song unique, giving it a powerful sonic package, and making it sound like "a record". There's no formula for this, it's all about active listening and taking chances.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: I always start by listening to the artist's rough mix and trying to gauge the things that they tried to highlight while also getting a vibe for how the song should feel. I also like it when I get a reference song of what the artist wants their record to sound like...my job is to bridge the gap.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I have a full mix studio with Pro-Tools Ultimate HDX, HD OMNI, KRK E8's, Avid S1, All major brand plug-ins, UA 6176, Gibson Flying V, PRS 305, Jericho Guitars acoustic.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: I love anything with a creative twist, like indie rock mixed with dance or urban elements. Artists like Bob Moses, Oliver Tree, and Internet Money.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I typically mix and master records in the rock, pop, indie, and R&B genres
