I had a blast mixing Elle's record. I hope to work with her again in the future.
Saul City was a complete blessing to work with. I have never worked with a production team virtually but it ended up working out beautifully. Lauren and Michele responded swiftly, and we were always able to find times to talk through the long distance. Both are extremely talented and knowledgeable musicians and I cannot wait to work with them again. Michele's production was outstanding and inspiring. I love the theatric feel he was able to portray in the song. Lauren went above and beyond! She wrote and created an incredible vocal arrangement which helped my song grow to its full potential.
Interview with Saul City
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: We are working with Australian artists as composer\songwriter and producer, and we have a project with an Italian singer. And are also working on our next release.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: We would definitely suggest Benny Steele as Mix Engineer and Producer,as we worked with him and he was really professional and available in his honest advice.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The most fascinating part is getting to work with new people, their perspectives, their form of expression. We learn so much.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Well, we guess a guitar, notebook and pen would be the best options. WE can always record everything once we are saved haha.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Our style is definitely an intense mix of who we are as people and music listeners. And it is expressed in every piece we work on. Whether it be a chord progression or lyrically. It's thought provoking, fun and most importantly makes sense.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Every artist has something to offer, something another artist may not have. Something that sets you apart. Together with your experiences, your abilities, hold on to it. Grow in it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic, pop, acoustic, soul, urban and indie.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Our strongest skill lies in composition and songwriting. An added skill would have to be our sensitivity to sound, In that there's a song for everyone. And we think we place artists well within their genre.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: We bring our heart and soul mostly and all the influences we've been into all these years, mixed with our own character as artists.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Being a team, allows us to approach our productions and compositions from various perspectives. Often our singer\songwriter has a vocal line and we start from there, other times the vocal may follow a chord progression using the guitar or a song might be found using the instruments on our D.A.W. However, when writing with others, the process is usually a few sessions getting to know the artist. Picking up on their influences, style of writing etc. And we'll take it from there. It can also happen that we start putting idea down after creating a new beat,it really depends on the direction we are goin to move to,and what we do want to achieve .
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To work hard for their satisfaction.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: We are inspired by a wide variety of musicians, producers and songwriters. Some of them include; Rudimental, Mark Ronson, Disclosure, Sia, John Mayer, Andy Mckee, Lianne La Havas, James Vincent Mcmorrow and Jack Garratt.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They ask which services we can do for them ann we respond everything is in our capabilities. They ask us about our music influences and we respond the truth: a lot, thats why is hard for us to define our genre.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: We are in the music business since we got married, mostly as artists.its been almost 2 years that we are composing and producing for other people,as we love doing this as well.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: We would really love to work with
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: To see us as guidance through the project and not as your final step to completing your project.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Our main area of work regarding clients are in; songwriting\composing and production (which does not include mixing and mastering).
