Interview with Myylo
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That its easy! I've developed my songwriting skills over years of sessions. I started as an intern sitting in on sessions with greats like Priscilla Renea (Timber, California King Bed) watching how she'd develop the ability to pen a song in 10 minutes flat. I've worked my whole career to obtain a similar speed and proficiency in storytelling and melody writing through thousands of sessions.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My word choices are often praised by writers and artists I work with as being unique, surprising, and special.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to chat with an artist one-on-one about what they're looking to create, listen to a few references, and work collaboratively (when desired) to make something special.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: When recording I work out of LOGIC Pro X with an Apollo interface and an SM7B microphone.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by writers and artists like Justin Tranter, Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Dorian Electra, Max Martin, Sara Bareilles, Pheobe Bridgers, Beyoncé, and anyone else in this industry operating with an intense desire to be their best.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of the toplining I do is artist focused. I tend to work with a producer or one-on-on with an artist helping them figure out what words and melodies to use to tell their stories.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recently executive produced the new Zolita album. I rewrote works in progress, penned new songs, created strict deadlines, coordinated production with producers, and gave detailed notes to mixing engineers.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Writing songs for clients that work for them.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have any songwriting references I can listen to? What story do you want to tell? What is the deadline?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Hit the contact button. I love learning about potential customers and what their vision is so that I can help them execute their plans.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Helping an artist write songs that fit into their story and their voice
