Whats up!
I'm Mainey, AKA Dayton James, Artist, Songwriter and Vocal Producer from London UK, currently based in Toronto.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to work with a magnitude of artists, writers and producers and now I would like to share that with YOU!
The services I'd like to provide on here are:
*Session Vocalist* - I will sing your demo's for you. This means I will record myself over your demo's and either send you the dry vocals or mix it myself.
*Songwriter* - Send me your beats, I will write a banger to it!
*Vocal Producer* - Have you recorded yourself, or someone else and you just can't get it to sound right? Send me the dry stems and your vision and I'll sort that for you.
All of the above services I have done for many many many clients of mine and continue to do so, but now I want to bring my services to SoundBetter to not only increase my network but to make more people happy with what they are creating.
Hit me up, let's work!
Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Endorse MaineyYou've taken the right path by clicking this page! Mainey is the definition of "Pro." Whether it be as a Songwriter/Vocal Producer, or as an Artist/Performer, he has proven to be a true professional at what he does. He knows exactly what he wants, and exactly how to get there, and is always open to collaboration, creative input, and trying new things. Extremely creative and will help you get your idea exactly to where you want it to be. A wicked talent that I highly recommend working with!
Mainey is professional, enjoyable to work with, and insanely talented. Wether its toplining, rescuing vocal mixes, writing harmonies, or engineering he always blows me away! Would highly recommend.
Mainey is literally the best person in the industry I have met. He's an amazing songwriter, singer, and engineer. He's very professional, as well as fun to work with. We're currently working together on a big project and honestly, I could not have asked for better. He pushes me to surpass myself every session whether it's songwriting, singing or vocal producing. He also always takes my worries and ideas into consideration which I really appreciate. I highly recommend working with him because you will only get quality. Mainey and mediocrity are NOT things that go together AT ALL
Interview with Mainey
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because I have everything I need in the box.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That you will leave with a product you’re happy with.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love being able to create something from nothing. Or, flipping something into something greater.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Question: how much? Answer: ‘The Price’
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I mix and produce the bottom line (the music). I do, but not at a level where I would charge for it.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have demoitis?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know exactly what you want. It’s ok to not know the SPECIFICS, I can help you with that, but if you know the direction, and you can translate that to me, then everybody's winning. And lastly, DONT HAVE DEMOITIS. For those who know what that is, demoitis is when you’re so used to the version you have that you can’t hear past it and any change is a bad change. If that was the case, you wouldn’t be hiring me 😉.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A fishing pole, a tinder box, an axe, a spear, and my iPhone incase I get bored of the island and need to call someone to take me off it. Aint no body making music on a desert island, I’m tryna survive 😂
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Since 2010 professionally. And my path has been a crazy one. But one that has consisted of a lot of questions like ‘why am I even doing this’ and the answer has always been ‘because this is the only thing you’re great at, so why not crush it’.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Consistent
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: One that is hungry. Artists that have no vision for themselves and rely on huge teams are no fun.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I would, but surely that would be giving away sauce.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: All kinds. Usually pop, rnb, soul, edm, reggaeton, hip hop, the commercial stuff. But I have done everything.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: To be able to see and hear an end product and make it come to life. A lot of people write off rough demos and can’t see the finish line. Not me. I can polish your turd. 😉
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Everything. Sorry, but it’s true. :o
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It really depends on the job, but regardless, to go ham. 😉
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It’s not your million dollar setup, but it’s one that is has been curated to produce hits.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I help pen lyrics for artists both established and upcoming. Since I sing myself, I am able to push them vocally too whether or not it’s me recording them. If it is me recording them, I will also produce their vocals and make them sound radio ready. I also accept dry stems and and give the same treatment ☺️.
