Interview with Jordan Metro
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My inspiration comes from the old and new greats such as Kanye West, No ID, Just Blaze, Noah "40", J. Cole, Boi-1nda, Travis Scott, Tyler the Creator and Key Wane.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in 2 separate studios, a home set up for my music production, and a recording studio in the city of Halifax for vocal tracking. My home setup and based around FL Studio and consists of a Roland Juno keyboard, studio monitors and a preamp for recording whatever other sounds. The recording studio works with ProTools and consists of a M Audio ProjectMix controller, a RODE mic, and a pair of Yamaha HS8s.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When producing, I'll either have a beat that someone will be inspired by to work with, or they will have an idea or something already written and have me with around their idea, which I find to be more fun and a nicer result.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My knowledge of music theory and music business.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually either chill vibe music, or darker, deep tone 808 driven music. All of which I like to call "car music". Im not much of a club or dance music producer but I always dabble.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Learn to play an instrument.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Kanye is too easy to say. So maybe Big Sean.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Diverse but cohesive. Often dark and ambient but chill and intelligent.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been making beats since age 13 so 9 years. In 2012 I went to NSCC for Recording Arts and again in 2015 for Music Business.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are they planning for the song and project?
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I enjoy creating art, painting pictures with sounds is what production is to me.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: R&B album from Halifax, experimental trap album from Toronto and always recording projects.
