Tummyache bassist, worked with Declan McKenna, Mahalia, Nina Nesbitt, Jade Bird, Mystery Jets, Victoria Canal, Ward Thomas
I can offer bespoke electric bass and upright bass tracks for your project, recorded from my studio.
My aim when playing other people's music is to serve the song - whether that's not to get in the way or to play something creative. My bass lines are intentional, melodic, modest, considered and subtly complex.

Linus was just fantastic to work with - his bass tracks are a perfect match for my project (so locked in!) and I really appreciate the versatility of having a clean DI track too (although his amp tone is amazing)! Also super-speedy and incredible value for money, so you should definitely book Linus to record bass for your next project!

Linus was amazing to work with - super quick (and efficient!) communication, with all the info needed for me to deliver the right drum tracks to his project quickly. His song sounded lovely as well, and I would love to work with him again!
This guy is wicked.
He recorded some double bass for a project i'm involved with from his home studio and his recordings sounded fantastic. His high communication throughout was invaluable and is care for the music is palpable.
A wonderful musician and top geezer. This year I’ve worked with Linus on several recordings from my forthcoming album. He recorded both electric and double bass remotely from his home studio. The time and care that he puts into the recording process, his attention to detail, creative energy, and enthusiasm are a joy. He is insightful and understanding, totally capable of and willing to honour one’s creative vision, whilst offering artistic perspective that can wholly augment the work in question. It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to work with Linus, he is a brilliant musician and artist, and I can’t recommend him highly enough
Linus played double bass on my record and it was such a pleasure having him involved in the project. He came up with some amazing parts and was a great vibe to be in the studio with, and always happy to do extra takes and try out different ideas, not to mention how great his sound and playing is. A really lovely energy and just an all round brilliant musician and lovely guy. Will definitely be working with him again in the future, and would recommend without hesitation!
I've used Linus for a few different projects and each time has been so easy. Great to work with someone with attention to quality like him and he's always open to suggestions and changes. Very reassuring to now know he's always there for future work!
Linus played on my newest record and it was such a great experience. He was personable, friendly, and open to any and all suggestions. We worked out a few of the parts together over the internet but overall the parts he created even on his own exceeded my expectations. He has the ability to track amazing quality sound in his home studio. I would recommend him to anyone!
Interview with Linus Fenton
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Every Tummyache album I played bass on every song and Soren, the bandleader, gives me almost full creative reign of the bass parts and it's given me the space to make parts I'm really proud of.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm touring with Tummyache and Declan McKenna and doing a lot of recording at Middle Farm Studios.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Matt Johnson, drummer for Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright and St. Vincent. I had the privilege of touring with him and he played on my record and he's just one of the greatest drummers of all time. Nuno Oliveira, listed on here as "Nuno." is another absolutely awesome, flawless drummer.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog if possible because it's usually more real. Nothing wrong with digital sometimes though.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll play whatever makes you happy.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The music
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "How do you get such a good tone?" It's all in the fingers.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I don't think a lot of people realise how much a high quality bass part and recording can lift a song. Make a good song brilliant.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have any ideas what you would like from the bass? No worries if you don't, I'm happy to lead the way!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose me
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If there's power, a vintage P-bass with an Ampeg SVT, a loop pedal, a fuzz pedal and a pitch shifter pedal.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I got my first bass for my 12th birthday, I turn 30 in 2025. I studied Jazz at music college and started touring at similar time and pretty much haven't stopped!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Intentional, modest and subtly complex.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jon Brion because I love his music and he seems like a very interesting guy.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do what sounds natural.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, pop and folk. Some jazz too.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Doing what's right with sprinkling of spice.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Weight, intrigue, cohesiveness.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to the song, learn the melody, then learn the chords and then see where I'm naturally drawn with the bass. I'll record three full live takes and send them over with bounces of the song with the bass in there so that the client can listen with the bass straight away.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Apollo Twin, Aguilar Amp, lots of basses
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Paul McCartney, Colin Greenwood, Flea
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Bass
